Why Don't I Like Jack Hughes?

Of course.

Every American Jack who’s drafted in the top two spots is a spoiled brat. See the name
Jack and the American flag, it’s a tell tale sign.

There’s as much proof here was there was four years ago.

Sigh/

Don’t people understand that ego is what
Makes these players excel. You just shouldn’t have TOO much of it, but you need to know your amazing to keep being amazing. That ain’t smug.

You could tell that he was not a fan of Kakko in the way he completely ignored him at the draft. I think that's just normal competitiveness towards someone who was a threat for the top spot. He definitely displayed favoritism for his Team USA teammates in his interaction.

Does this mean he's a bad person? No, this is just the way 18 year olds act before society beats the whole "be polite to everyone but never get attached" thing into them.

Lou would've beat all that personality out of him in the first training camp. I'm actually looking forward to what the team will do with marketing him, Subban, and others. The Devils definitely need more exposure.

I am a nothing. Hughes is a young multi-millionare, superstar, professional athlete. I get that.

I don't like the Devils- but am mature enough to look at players beyond the jersey they wear.

My first girlfriend's family had Devil's season tix in the late 80's/early 90's. I was forced to like them to an extent. (I even had to help her judge who was the "hottest" guy on the Club. Good God what I did for that girl...)

Muller, Albelin, Shanahan, Dougie Brown..lot's of guys to like/respect..

So, no. There is just something that bothers me. Have never felt this with Hischier. Love the kid.

Something is off and I want to know if anyone else feels the same.

I am being 100% honest in my question in regards to how Hughes comes across. Probably is just maturity. Guys like Crosby and Kane have changed remarkably as they got older. Hughes is no doubt a good kid. Just asking what is it that bothers me.
A lot of teenage boys are cocky, smug, douchebags without being superstar athletes or anything even remotely notable for that matter. A little arrogance for a kid in his situation is normal and nothing to be concerned about. He will grow out of it.

If I didn't know who Connor McDavid was, saw the left photograph uncaptioned and had to guess the backstory, it would be:

Feral teenager is rescued from the jungle, cleaned, given a haircut, and adopted by a middle-aged American couple. Still adjusting to wearing clothes.

The mental image of Connor McDavid in a loincloth swinging from tree to tree is not one I'd like to have again thank you very much.

Yes OP, I also find Jack Hughes very hard to like. (Seriously) I don't really know why either, although I wouldn't say he comes off as smug.

A lot of people are poo pooing on the OP, but as a Devils fan I get what he’s saying. Hughes definitely has some cockiness, smugness, and arrogance in the way he carries himself...but at the same time he’s respectful, says all the right things, and seems genuine when he speaks. It’s a weird mix, but it works for him.[/QUOTE

Thank you for understanding. I don't dislike him. I am simply trying to ask if others thought that there was "something" about off with his demeanor, maybe the way he speaks... Has nothing to do with being a Devil.

He will he great and I will appreciate what he does in the ice. I expect he will grow into a very good man. Probably captain of the team and possibly winning hardware for Team USA.

Thx again for those that took a minute to consider what I was asking.

I will gladly start a similar thread about Lundqvist...a guy that Ranger fans adore, but do not have a deep emotional attachment. He is a good man, and we saw glimpses of his heart when interviewed after playing first game after Mats Such was traded...a very restrained, private guy...

Thx again to those that took thus seriously

He's not smug enough for me. Seriously wish we'd have a few more d-bags in the league for the entertainment value.

I want a new Roy/Roenick soundbite. Instead all I get is Listerine comments from a dude I know has hot breath. Smh.

He's a handosme, world class hockey player who has probably spent the last 5 years of his life being told how great he is by everyone who meets him. Also, he's a millionaire. He'll never have to try to get a date, worry about anything financially, or take an order for someone else's burger.

If there's anyone in the world who gets to be smug, it's him. Oh and hes what 17 or 18? I'm sure he'll mellow out as he gets a bit older. Most people do.

Its probably because hes as close to what every parent dreams heir 18 year old boy becomes lmao

Id let him date my daughter

Yeah, I don’t think that’s what it is. I don’t know remotely enough about him to say I hope my offspring closely resemble him. But I will say, he does come off as respectful and humble. I really don’t think he is smug at all.

I will say, on the complete opposite spectrum, that Nico Hischier is extremely likeable.

Words with feelings about emotions and hockey posting about players past present and Rangers but not the Devils except maybe had I watched more and liked more but I find myself not in the hockey watching feeling that rises in me when seeing Reichel and Kessel and regardless of hot dogs trying and trading and winning but never love only like and hockey posting makes me wonder why sometimes Penguins fine but not exciting and what could have been Leafs but future.

I bet it has something to do with him sharing a name with the director of sixteen candles, pretty in pink, and the Beethoven series.

Being good at hockey is not an excuse for being bad person. There is plenty of rich hockey players who have great humble personality, like I said, Kakko is one of them.

No, we don't need douchebags to hockey. It's possible to be interesting personality without being a douche. If there were more douchebags in this sport, like in boxing and UFC where these fighters are bragging with their money etc being childish and arrogant, I would just lose interest to hockey. Hockey is popular in white wealthy countries where we don't have that kind of culture.

If you don't like Mike Richter, your taste in people is non-admissible.

As such, I refuse to answer your question.
