Why don’t people like Mackinnon?

I don't see any excessive amount of MacKinnon hate. And trust me, I'd notice. Other than some rivalry stuff where people are going to hate anyone or anything from a certain team, I don't think he's disliked at all.

The majority of us have one of the 3 insecure styles and that is fine. Again, you are complaining about a guy who wanted recognition for being the best at the time. Sounds like a you problem, vs his insecurities.

You're assuming the person you initially responded to was referring to secure attachment when using the word secure, which is a strange interpretation. Hey - they may have been, but I'm guessing that usually, in the absence of a qualifier, people would be thinking about self-secure individuals.

Anyway, to the OP, you'd be hard-pressed to find people who don't respect MacKinnon's abilities, but he's a different cat, which doesn't always play well to the idol-worshipping sports fan.

Fully healthy McDavid is 1000% better than Mackinnon and it's not even close. Dude is lapping the entire field points wise and awards wise just like the stretch we saw from 2021-2023.

Mackinnon needs injury riddled seasons from his competition to even contend for awards.

Definitely not false, this was a common narrative like 3/4 years ago for like LOTS of people.

It came up when Mack was going apeshit in the playoffs and McDavid was faltering, but it died down and everybody with a brain knew the truth.

He's a sports psychopath. Exact same as Crosby/Jordan/Cristiano/Brady. Obviously part of the reason hes so insanely good at the game but it's very much a type and one that a lot of people are turned off by

Thing is, is that he's not even remotely on the same tier of any of those players. Just a very good franchise player.

It seems like a lot of people root against Colorado, and Nate in particular. Dallas.. really isn’t likable either, yet I’ve been rooting for them this series.

For me, it’s this odd feeling that Nate and Cale are like the jockiest of jocks, and playing with ‘em would absolutely suck. Like they’re those Globogym bros from Dodgeball. I’m aware this is a ridiculous reason to dislike a team, but.. there it is. Also, there was a whole coverup with Val and that was messed up, but I feel like that’s not what drives the dislike. I think since they won the cup Nate’s just kinda a decent heel, and his demeanor and the silly chickpea shit just fuels it. I know, kinda a weird take, but again- feels like more people are rooting for Dallas, and no one friggin roots for Dallas (Colorado and Dallas fans exempted).

In a world full of spoiled, tone-deaf, and cringe-inducing NHL athletes, he stands out as one of the worst personalities. Hockey lends itself to these people, unfortunately - old money is needed to bankroll youth hockey, and the best athletes are often the best throughout their lives. Absolutely unbearable people to be around. The fact that Mackinnon stands out among this group kinda answers the question.

I love watching Mack play, how can you not?

I totally understand having a mentor and you can’t get a better one than Sid. But Mackinnon’s obsession with Sid is borderline creepy.

One thing that left a bad taste with some that Mack had no control of is how last year a lot of writers and talking heads declared him the MVP in like…January. “Seems like it’s his turn” was often used. He had a tremendous year, but it wasn’t a forgone conclusion like some made it out to be.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say a bad word about Makar. lol.

Id like to hear more about this supposed Crosby obsession you speak of.
