Why don’t people like Mackinnon?

I think he's completely likeable. But sometimes he gets put on par with McDavid, which isn't really reasonable, and it makes people find the case against him.

He's a sports psychopath. Exact same as Crosby/Jordan/Cristiano/Brady. Obviously part of the reason hes so insanely good at the game but it's very much a type and one that a lot of people are turned off by

MacKinnon is probably the most liked out of him McDavid, Draisaitl and Matthews. Not everyone is going to like him but he's definitely got more fans than those guys.

Most likely because he's shown the more personality than guys like McDavid who's like a hockey robot with no personality whatsoever.

My favourite player that isn’t a Duck/Sid. Watched him every year since he watching him on team NS at the Canada games. Living where he is from I’ve never heard a bad thing said about him aside from the being demanding to his teammates. If that’s a bad thing or not.

Tongue in cheek (mostly) but I always found him kinda annoying with his overhandling of the puck.

You know cradling it back and forth between forehand and backhand and dangling, when there's no reason to do so.

Idk if anyone else hs noticed that about him and his game.
Totally get your point! He looks so hyperactive with the puck and his movement in general. It's super subjective, but I can't enjoy watching him play like others.

No question about it: he is a superstar and fantastic player! It's just my personal preference.

I like him and love watching him play but I can see why people think he’s a douche. 99% of the players in the NHL would have had a laugh and turned this into a moment of brevity but he went full Captain Serious.

I mean him and Biz have a good relationship I think it’s more making fun of Biz asking a terrible question. Watch their sandbagger on YouTube. It’s comical.

It seems like a lot of people root against Colorado, and Nate in particular. Dallas.. really isn’t likable either, yet I’ve been rooting for them this series.

For me, it’s this odd feeling that Nate and Cale are like the jockiest of jocks, and playing with ‘em would absolutely suck. Like they’re those Globogym bros from Dodgeball. I’m aware this is a ridiculous reason to dislike a team, but.. there it is. Also, there was a whole coverup with Val and that was messed up, but I feel like that’s not what drives the dislike. I think since they won the cup Nate’s just kinda a decent heel, and his demeanor and the silly chickpea shit just fuels it. I know, kinda a weird take, but again- feels like more people are rooting for Dallas, and no one friggin roots for Dallas (Colorado and Dallas fans exempted).

Anywho, thoughts?
People love cheering for the underdogs. Athletes know they made it when people start cheering against them.

Fans of those teams eliminated or not in the playoffs tend to gravitate to cheering for their most beloved player left, or teams that haven't won/won in a while. Dallas hasn't won since 1999. I think it's easy to see why some fans would cheer on Dallas over Colorado. With that said, I think most fans love Mackinnon, and most of the bitterness comes from their own star player having to compete with him.

I think a lot of it started when half the media starting crowning him the "best player in the world" several years ago despite guys like McDavid or Kucherov outpacing him every year. Seems like as a forward if you are the best player in the world you should at a minimum win an Art Ross or Rocket every now and then.. or maybe even once? That's why these same media people pushed the narrative last year that he was "due" for the Hart.

He's an entertaining player to watch, tons of talent, but I also think his game is a bit one dimensional. His big move is to carry the puck into the zone with tons of speed, pushing the defenseman back, make a quick cut at the top of the circle, a quick stick handle to change the angle then shoots using the defenseman as a screen. Over and over again.

The other thing is his attitude just comes across as totally unfriendly. You could say the same thing about Draisaitl or Kucherov at times. Here's a good example from last night. You just won the game, they're trying to set up a funny question and maybe get a good sound bite...

I dunno. I'd say they got a pretty good sound bite anyway.

I feel like he’s pretty universally liked?

I’ve always felt like MacKinnon/Makar were on top of most people’s “favorite players not playing on your team” list. At least they really much are amongst my friend group, relatives.

I like watching MacKinnon as a player, but it's easy to dislike MacPoutyface, skating 200 mp/h, making useless dangles - losing the puck cheating for offence then yelling at your teammates

People don't like Avs fans for being "obnoxious" but every fanbase has obnoxious fans... also his helmet throwing/game is off the charts comparatively speaking.

I also don't like MacKinnon. I've always thought he was very overrated. He's probably the best NHL example of the type of athlete I don't like. And it pretty much starts and ends with: he's dumb.

You can see it in interviews and media, but also on the ice. He's an inefficient, low IQ player who may be the most talented/athletic guy in the league, but he's not the best because he makes so many errors. He's a volume shooter, a volume passer, a volume stickhandler, etc...MacKinnon just always seems to do too much (except in the defensive zone). Sure, the results speak for themselves, and I can't deny that the production justifies his spot among the Top 4/5 NHL centers, but that's why I hate him.

I remember watching a lot of him during the season the Avs won the cup, which was the same season he truly broke out and was considered among the very best in the league. I was taken aback at how easily good defensive dmen shut him down. In the two games against the Panthers, MacKenzie Weegar must have stripped him of the puck like eight times. He just bull rushes forward and eventually breaks through because of sheer force and talent. No finesse or grace to his game. The opposite of the Lady Byng--and when he won it, it made me hate him even more.

Then there's his pyschopathy. I myself went on a year's long fitness, diet, and wellness transformation, and I became a zealot by the end of it. But I didn't force my beliefs on other people like how MacKinnon banned his teammates from eating foods. It doesn't take a genius to understand that what works for one person might make another miserable, and throw off their game. But MacKinnon is a known psycho who domineers and freaks out on teammates--including young guys--when they make mistakes in practice or generally don't live up to his specific standards.

Also, the $12.6m thing was lame as shit.
