Why don’t people like Mackinnon?

As many have said the hate comes mostly from Oilers fans who want McDavid to be considered by far the best/Draisaitl to be next and Tampa fans mad that Kucherov isn't considered better by many who watch the games despite the stats.

I don't like him cause Avs suck of course, but beyond that he's just way too serious about hockey and his diet and stuff which I can't relate to.

Also on a hockey level he's a bit frustrating because except for like stretches this year his head can't keep up with his hands and feet. He plays super individualistically at times and doesn't utilize him teammates despite the all world talent around him. He hogs, skating furiously around the perimeter only to cut above the slot and fire an unscreened shot into the goalie... and then he goes to the bench and seems mad at his teammates... like wtf lol?

It seems like a lot of people root against Colorado, and Nate in particular. Dallas.. really isn’t likable either, yet I’ve been rooting for them this series.

For me, it’s this odd feeling that Nate and Cale are like the jockiest of jocks, and playing with ‘em would absolutely suck. Like they’re those Globogym bros from Dodgeball. I’m aware this is a ridiculous reason to dislike a team, but.. there it is. Also, there was a whole coverup with Val and that was messed up, but I feel like that’s not what drives the dislike. I think since they won the cup Nate’s just kinda a decent heel, and his demeanor and the silly chickpea shit just fuels it. I know, kinda a weird take, but again- feels like more people are rooting for Dallas, and no one friggin roots for Dallas (Colorado and Dallas fans exempted).

Anywho, thoughts?
Mcdavid and Matthews get alot more hate

A lot of Oilers fans try to discredit him any chance they can to keep McDavid on the pedestal. Even saw it during the 4 nations which was strange.

I rip Quinn for his lack of defense but will be his biggest fan in Milan next Feb.

This is fairly true, but I also don't think his means they hate him. Obviously some take the fandom to the next level and do hate in defense of their favorite player, but that's a minority. You see a few people in the Crosby threads do this as well in defense of him.

We are spoiled right now as hockey fans, I think when this generation is retired maybe some will appreciate what they missed out on.

What do you mean, people don't like MacKinnon? Haven't seen this at all. There's some talk about some players, for example Kucherov doesn't seem to be very liked, but I haven't seen anything like this about MacKinnon.

I think a lot of it started when half the media starting crowning him the "best player in the world" several years ago despite guys like McDavid or Kucherov outpacing him every year. Seems like as a forward if you are the best player in the world you should at a minimum win an Art Ross or Rocket every now and then.. or maybe even once? That's why these same media people pushed the narrative last year that he was "due" for the Hart.

He's an entertaining player to watch, tons of talent, but I also think his game is a bit one dimensional. His big move is to carry the puck into the zone with tons of speed, pushing the defenseman back, make a quick cut at the top of the circle, a quick stick handle to change the angle then shoots using the defenseman as a screen. Over and over again.

The other thing is his attitude just comes across as totally unfriendly. You could say the same thing about Draisaitl or Kucherov at times. Here's a good example from last night. You just won the game, they're trying to set up a funny question and maybe get a good sound bite...

What a weird take?

As a Sabres fan you're rooting for the Stars? 1999 foot in the crease?

Jamie Benn more likeable than Mackinnon? The same Jamie Benn who scums it up and has cheap shotted Sabres players? Mack has never scummed it up against the Sabres or injured a Sabre.

The near constant HF main boards harassment by Finish Dallas Stars fans obsessed with propping up Hesikanen and tearing down Dahlin with their every waking breath

The Stars playing a boring defensive, clutch and grab style hockey for much of the last 5-10 years.

There isn't a team in the West that I root against harder than the Stars.

As a Leaf fan I personally love Colorado and MacK is one of my favourite players in the league. He's an absolute dog and a great leader IMO.

He strikes me as the overachiever who takes his "job" seriously and that will rub the p***yes who are just average joes the wrong way. Jealousy, envy, hate, whatever you want to call it. Some people are just better at life than others and hes one of them.

Hes proven with numbers to be on par with McDavid since 2019 at ES and PP in the Canada division and 2022 is the only difference. McDavid has the eye test with flash and all offense. MacKinnon is the power, one timer, and actually attempts defense now and then.

IMO, excluding Makar who is obviously in a league of his own on D, MacKinnon and McDavid are interchangeable as 1-2 in the world for a half decade now and the players obviously agree.

He was a much bigger hothead earlier in his career. Crosby had the same issue too.

Also, as mentioned, the media's fawning over him recently.

Overall though I think he is quite liked.

Tongue in cheek (mostly) but I always found him kinda annoying with his overhandling of the puck.

You know cradling it back and forth between forehand and backhand and dangling, when there's no reason to do so.

Idk if anyone else hs noticed that about him and his game.
Definitely. I’m a big Nate fan and he’s one of the best players in the league, but sometimes he stick handles like he wishes he was a chef at Japanese steakhouse.
