If we win every game on this road trip missing our 1G and 2 top 6 forwards the Stanley Cup train is back on the tracks and we will be favorites to win it all, change my mind.

Narrator: they did not win every game on that road trip.

Of course we were excited. We we’re getting ready to lock in Alexander Semin, the sniper who anchored the best line in the NHL, to join perennial 40-goal threat Jeff Skinner… we had our long term #1D in Jamie McBain… we’d penciled in our future 3C, Jeremy Welsh, to compliment reliable 2C Jordan Staal… the 4th line was anchored by noted PK specialist Tim Brent, and the intimidating Kevin Westgarth would keep other teams honest… add in a youth movement with top prospects like Zac Dalpe, Zac Boychuk, and recent top pick Ryan Murphy, and the sky was the limit.

Man, those was the times. I liked that group.
I really miss those times.

I didn't see this game, other than extended highlights. I was wrong about the 3rd pairing in the off-season. I thought that replacing Cole and Smith would be an easy task because they only played against sheltered competition and Cole was slow and a penalty machine. Frankly, it should have been an easy task. Well, Chatfield is AHL level and now I know why CDH only got a PTO this off-season.

At least we aren't spending a lot of money on a bad 3rd pair :dunno:

In last night's postgame, I recall MM and Tripp repeatedly saying that we "gutted" this win out. My first thought is "Why the F are we having to 'gut out' wins with our roster". The again, when you're in a nasty little funk, everything is amplified, and nothing comes easy. Calgary is a good team but it's been a while since, it seems to me at least, that we really had to take an underdog mentality to break through. Either way, it worked last night.
