Why do teams pull the goalie again after giving up an empty net goal?

It never made sense to me to pull the goalie again after giving up an empty goal. The game is done. Why not move on to the next game instead of just adding another goal against?

91 times in NHL history, a team has scored 3 goals in 45 seconds or less. The record is 3 goals in 20 seconds. A lot can happen in a very short time.

Also, does it really matter if you lose 5-2 instead of 4-2? What do you see as the benefit of giving up?

The only time it wouldn’t make sense is if you were in the last game of the season and you were so close in standings that the tiebreaker was goal differential and your goal differential was within 1 goal
Especially in the playoffs there is zero reason to not pull the goalie again

It pains me to say this, but the Ducks scored 3 goals with their goalie pulled in a playoff game against the Oilers, tieing the game after being down by 3 with about 2 minutes left.

Your question is why should they even have bothered, they should had taken the loss and move on....

Daily Planet did a piece on pulling the goalie years ago. They ran all sorts of simulations and ran the odds etc. It came up nearly every single situation the best odds were pull the goalie. Up 7-0 8 mins into the first? pull the goalie. Down 7-0 with 40 seconds left? pull the goalie. It may not work or make sense but the math says do it.
