Why do 4 NHL arenas have a solid red center line when the rulebook says it is not allowed?

I find this fascinating simply because someone caught/noticed it.

Now I'm rooting for a team to call one of the 4 out on it! :naughty:

I like when teams put cute little designs in there

They missed an opportunity to put small banners in there. I'm disappointed

not to go off topic, but even as a Boston fan its total BS that the other team doesn't get a chance to answer.

defense is just as much a part of the game as offense. all they had to do was not give up a TD

same way in hockey OT if a team wins the face off, and scores right away the other team doesnt get a chance to match it

I mean they are least have to win a face-off... not a coin flip. Not discounting what the Pats did at all! But if KC won that coin toss, I betchya Brady never touches the ball.

Anyway, back to the OP... I think "markings at regular intervals" can be lawyered to be whatever you want. In reality, I think this is just something they forgot to update.

In hockey a better equivalent would be making the shootout first to score wins.

Because those team are rebels and aren't soft like the other 27. Deal with it.

not really, NFL OT is still actual football. you just need to play a shred of defense.

and really if the Chiefs had won that way instead you wouldn't hear a peep. Its only an issue because the Patriots won.

The NHL itself has used solid red lines in other special events including regular season games in other countries. I am sure in the updated mandates for ice markings, solid red lines are legal. We just are seeing those updates.

Can you imagine the fun if a visiting coach playing in Boston, Sunrise, St. Louis or Vancouver signals the officials and demands a penalty over an illegal player surface?

It is in the rulebook :dunno:

Some whiny coach - “hey their red line doesn’t meet blah blah criteria”

Ref - “lol shut the f*** up”

Wasn't that law more for people pretending to use witchcraft to take people money for spells and other nonsense like that? I could be wrong.
That's basically what this woman did, she demanded money in order to lift a "curse'

This isn't far from where I live, quite the story

Well for the longest time not all NHL arenas had the same size rink so I guess that's progress?
I think it would be interesting if this was done away with, allowing some teams to opt to play on Olympic size ice. Would add an interesting dynamic to home ice advantages, and create a more diverse on ice product.

I know it'll never happen, but fun to think about.

Weird how the majority (sans Bruins) are teams who have never won a Cup.

Actually OP has a point.

The examples he cites have neither a “distinctive design” (a distinctive color is not the same as a distinctive design), nor regular interval markings. Both of which seem to be mandated by the rule book.

I would make an inquiry to the NHL officiating about this.
Yes because it hard to distinguish the difference between a solid RED line compared to a solid BLUE line.
