Why are so many trying to make Russia look like an equal to Canada?

I think Barbashev from Vegas could play center and Dadonov from Dallas (he had that experience). Your candidates for the center of the 3-4 lines are too weak. Plus there is Kuznetsov, who, although not as good as before, looked decent at the NHL level.

P.S. Sorry, I didn't immediately realize that we were talking about the World Cup. realized it only when I didn't see Ovechkin, Svechnikov, Orlov. But it's incorrect to determine the strength of the national team based on the World Championship. Since most of the best Canadian players are busy. And the Russians, by the way, too.
The likely composition of the Russian national team for the tournament of the best:

Panarin - Barbashev - Kucherov

Kaprizov - Malkin - Marchenko

Ovechkin - Namestnikov-Svechnikov/Michkov

Kuzmenko - Voronkov - Nichushkin

Dorofeev

Provorov - Zub

Sergachev - Gavrikov

Orlov - Romanov

Mintyukov

Vasilevsky, Bobrovsky, Sorokin.

You're right, the central forwards of this national team are very weak.

But it’s got more medals than any other country
As Russia? I doubt it. It is not the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was a different animal in terms of achievement, truly the Red Machine. Of course I didn't like them as a Czech, but I respected their incredible abilities not just as a set of great individuals, but also their team play. Remarkable.

Russia being equal to Canada is only said by Russians close to Russian propaganda machine and Russian 'fans' who believe everything shown on TV and who watch hockey once per year. Actual Russian hockey fans who actually follow the sport themselves cringe hard from such statements.
The main problem of the Russian national team is the lack of a good coach.
Yeah, will agree with that, Russian coaching is pretty terrible. Heck, the last decent coaching team Russia had wasn't even exactly Russian.
