2025 DRAFT Thread

I usually don't like trading down in the 1st round, but looks like the 15th overall will miss the really good prospects.

Although knowing this management, chances are the 1st is traded for immediate help

I want to say that that extra loser point cost us the #4 overall pick but with our draft lottery lucky I know it wouldn’t have happened…

Cool article by Daily Faceoff

I’m going to need to start compiling my draft lists. Annoying that the two draft simulators are currently broken; DraftPro hasn’t updated to use 2025 rankings and FCHockey doesn’t have the correct draft order.

If we don't get a faller out of the top centers (in no particular order):
McQueen
O'Brien
Bear
Martin

I'd rather take an elite winger or even defenseman rather than reaching for a center...you might get Jackson Smith or Aitcheson for D, or Carbonneau or Lakovic on the wing (maybe even Eklund). Big time upside with all those players.

As much as I love Reschny I'm not sure I'd take him at 15. Incredibly smart and involved but lacks the separating skill right now to project with confidence that he'll be a top scorer as a smaller guy. I'd consider him though because there is real upside there with how quickly he thinks the game. Certainly not Kindel or Cootes.

As I saw an internet analyst post today, this draft is a draft for need type of draft for most teams outside the top 3.

I'm not remotely convinced we're drafting at 15 this year. Questioning if we'll have our 2nd as well. Everything is about how we do next year
Is it possible for these folks to take these whiny posts to another thread and they can all high five each other kicking around the same flat soccer ball and have a beverage together??

Half the posts in here are bitching about the team trading the pick. I'm here to see who's tracking between 10 and 20. I don't watch as much junior hockey as I once did. The Eeyores need to stomp their hooves in every..... f***ing....:.thread.

The Canucks could trade their first, second and even third round draft pick, and it wouldn't even marginally change how they do next season.

There simply isn't a 'game-changing forward' available either as a UFA or a trade candidate. Those types of forwards--particularly centers--aren't on the block no matter how many draft picks you're willing to trade.

So will the Canucks deserve the 1st overall pick when they lose Hughes in his prime for nothing? ;)
The Canucks would never risk 'losing Quinn Hughes for nothing'. And it's unlikely even winning the draft lottery would mean acquiring a player of his caliber.

It he isn't re-upped by June of next season, then he's on the block. And the Canucks would expect to reap quite a haul in the trade market.

You don't know who's available or what the value of the picks are, let alone know each teams' ins and outs financially or organizationally.

15. Vancouver Canucks: Justin Carbonneau, RW, Blainville-Boisbriand (QMJHL)

The Canucks will explore their options on the trade market with the 15th selection at the draft, but if they stick and pick, they’ll need to add offensive juice to their lineup above all other considerations. Carbonneau would fit the bill, and do so with the sort of “heavy skill” template this team is desperate for. — Thomas Drance

15. Vancouver Canucks: Lynden Lakovic, LW, Moose Jaw Warriors

One of the biggest forwards in the draft, Vancouver could stand to add some bulk up front. Lakovic also happens to have enough skill to make a good number of plays and provide some power forward elements. I just don't think the Canucks have a lot like him in their system, so he would add some variety.

No. 15: Vancouver Canucks - Braeden Cootes, C, 6-foot, 183 pounds, Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
Cootes is coming fresh off an amazing U18 gold medal performance and has slowly and methodically risen in the ranks. He’s always in the fight and has proven his skill is on point as well. This would be a safe pick for a team that’s had a lot of drama lately.

Sam Cosentino

As long as no one out of the consensus top 12 drops I'm very much Cootes at 15th overall. He does a lot of the little things that are going to make him a good NHL center and that's pretty rare for a junior player these days. He reminds me a lot of Robert Thomas in junior.

Sasha's nephew is not a power forward whatsoever.

big soft finesse winger at this point. good skillset otherwise though. decent skater for his size and probably a guy that gets quicker and faster as his leg strength develops. Lack of physicality is a massive impediment to him going very far post draft IMO. He should be manhandling guys like Kramer in a kids karate class, but the king of confrontation he is most certainly not.

I agree. He's not very physical, especially for his size. He has probably an above average shot and scores a lot off the rush. I said before he reminds me of a taller Jake Debrusk.

The Canucks have so many needs, I can't really write off anyone at this point in time.

They better pick a lot of Canadians off that u18 team. They had a great group of different players. That's probably why they cleaned house.
