Why are NHL Jerseys so bland compared to pro Europe leagues

This is one of those things I'll never agree with. The jerseys are great for a pro sport league and no ads makes them wonderful. Best in pro sports IMO.

I love our Heritage Jerseys.

Those uniforms are great! The Jets will be wearing them again today against Minnesota. Would love to see the team go with that look on a permanent basis (even if they kept the current logo).

Not all euro jerseys are colorful or riddled with ads, like these Pelicans thirds:

I actually really like that simple design.

Not to go OT, but what's the story with the gold helmet?

Even though 95% of posts in this thread are OT anyway because the OP said it's not about the ads, just the colors. Which I will kind of agree with, there are a lot of similar looking jerseys in the league.

Golden helmets are worn by the best point scorer on each team.

I also like my teams jersey, even if it's not that colorful:

Thanks!

And yes, those are very clean looking (minus the ads of course). Always have a tendency to use them in NHL 17.

Yeah, dressing NHL players in a bunch of ads like they're in a NASCAR race will really make them pop.

Nice try Bettman, we don't want ads on our jerseys.
OP is not talking about the ads.

And will we ever see colorful, catching the eye type designs? I am not talking about ads, leave them off, but everything is like one solid color usually, nothing sharp or eye popping.

Would add a lot to the sport IMO, and since it's marketed for kids during games, would probably add enjoyment for them as well.

What makes NHL uniforms so attractive is the simplicity of design and color. The European uniforms just appear to be 'visual noise'. For the most part, the uniforms of national teams over there (i.e Sweden, Finland, etc.) are quite alright.

Yes it does (although this version isn't used by the team any longer)

IMO some NHL-teams, like Hawks, Philly and Mtl have very nice jerseys. The others are ok.

If you want to see something really bland then look at Euro football teams' jerseys.
Most of them are either single colour or two coloured/striped.

That jersey also looks like ****.

If you link me a jersey that has advertisements plastered all over it, I'm going to tell you it looks like ****.

That version is too "new york rangers eque"

This was the top version IMO and what you should have gone back to. Logo and all.

The 90's version worn by Teemu Selanne in the picture above was definitely an improvement over those of the 80's which were the Rangers rejects from the late 70's. However, you can't beat the classic 70's version worn by the WHA Jets which should have been the ones carried forward by the club when they joined the NHL in 1979. That was the unfortunate decision made by then GM John Ferguson as we had to endure the 80's decade with one of the worst looking uniforms in the NHL. It was great to see the Jets wear the classic version again today against Minnesota. Would like to see them go with that look permanently as our current look is dull in comparison (with the exception of our logo which looks pretty good).
