Maybe not to coach.

But I guarantee with 100% certainty that we (along with just about anyone else on this board) could have managed this team significantly better the last three seasons than Dean.

It's always entertaining when certain posters are "attacked" for giving their opinion which goes against the norm here and then as the season wears on they are proven right.

No doubt.

Sutter will be the coach. You guys will still complain about it to death, and it'll be another lean year on the forum because you guys can't understand or handle the fact that there are 31 teams in the league and some are good and some are bad and some are just comfortably right there in the lower middle.

The team has one of the highest payrolls in the league and has won exactly one playoff game in three years. That's acceptable to you?

i would have never traded for Sekera and Lucic

so already there ...

Hilarious.

The NHL is missing out on so many scouting and team management skills being wasted on an Internet message board.

I think the point was made, and correctly I might add, that several posters pointed out that if Dean made certain moves they would be major gaffes.

Those posters did not do this in hindsight, and they were 100% correct. If we can see it, you would think Dean can see it.

Face it, Dean has not done a very good job since the end of the 2014 season.

Saying he has made bad moves (which I agree with) is FAAAAAR different than saying you could do a better job.

You couldn't.

No one is saying they should be GM's. Just that the man in charge has butchered the roster to levels we haven't seen since McMaster of Disaster in the mid 90's.

The fact is, this has been about as bad a job of managing a team these last three years as you could possibly do. I truly don't believe it's an incorrect or hyperbolic statement to say that a knowledgeable fan would have done a better job.

Really?

It's running an NHL team, it's not rocket science or brain surgery, let's get real here. It doesn't take a PhD to realize that bringing back Richards, signing Gaborik to a 7 year deal and trading for Lucic were stupid shortsighted moves.

There have basically been zero good moves made the last three years and a bunch of disasters. And it's not hindsight or Monday Morning QB'ing. Quite a few fans on this board were shocked and dismayed with the moves and saw this disaster coming.

So you COULD do a better job. You just don't think you should be a GM. Why? Internet message boarding is more challenging? Or you just hold out the hope a cup-winning GM can catch up to your intellect and business savvy?

A lot of those same fans were also extremely critical coming down the stretch in 2012, 2013, 2014. I guess eventually they were gonna be right.

Yes. I could have done a better job the last three seasons, I truly believe that. But again, the bar has been set extremely low.

I was not talking about an entire tenure, I was talking about the last three seasons where every significant move he has made has blown up in his face.

Problem with saying anybody could do better is also not knowing if there was pressure from Anshutz or Cheeseman. You can't say "I could do better by just not doing anything" if doing nothing wasn't an option from your bosses.

Some of the same people who were critical of the moves after the 2014 season were Dean's biggest boosters leading up to 2012.

I think if you want to critique the posters on our board you have to look at those wanting Dean's head on a platter before the Kings went on the 2012 run, and those trying to hang on to past glories today.

Now I think this is a valid point. After Dean saying the Kings and Kopitar weren't even in the same ballpark early on in the negotiation, Dean went silent. He stayed relatively silent on the subject until he caved into every on of Kopitar's demands.

I have often wondered if AEG management above Dean played a role in the Kopitar negotiation. I hope Dean does write a book some day. It would be very interesting reading for all of us.

There has been basically zero indication that ownership has had a hand in any personnel moves. The Kings had just won two cups in three years, doubt management was doing anything behind the scenes.

Now if it comes out that management said "no" to a Richards buyout then obviously you can't blame Dean, but all indications are a buyout was an option and Dean decided against it after his "heart to heart" at Richards cottage.

Um yeah, I don't think you should take hyperbolic statements so literally.

Several people did say certain moves would be train wrecks, and they were proven correct.
