Other than being a winger he’s nothing at all like MBN.
Heavy shots?

I agree most of the rest of it I am struggling with.

If you think he is going to hit, I see the gamble. He is a flashy player, but like you said the other day tough to see that working against top 4 NHL dman in a bunch of the highlights. I am intrigued he doesn’t get hit hard often and rides out a lot of physical challenges, but that is junior level not the pros.

Ok, I'll be the first to admit the comparison is probably pretty superficial, but this is Pronman's analysis:

"He's a very strong skater and puck handler who can beat defenders one-on-one at full flight. He's a physically developed winger who plays hard and can win puck battles fairly often. His style of play is highly translatable to the NHL game with the pace and effort in his shifts. He has a great shot and is often a threat to score from the faceoff dots with his one-timer. The one issue with Carbonneau is his decision-making at times is questionable and I wouldn't call him a natural playmaker."

I'm sure they have differences, but well built hard to play against winger with a booming shot who isn't a natural playmaker... seems like there are some similarities?

But again, I'll fully admit that I didn't give it a lot of thought and if you say I'm way off base then I'm not going to fight you. They just seemed a bit potentially duplicative of each other, at least compared to some other possibilities.

The argument that one report is similar to a report of another player just shows lazy writing by the journalist, and creates the illusion of similarity between players. It doesn’t take into consideration strength of class, strength of league, strength of competition, play style, role, etc.

We’ve watched Carbonneau in highlights and in shift-by-shift footage online. He’s physically developed in the weakest league in Canada and 4th best junior league. I don’t doubt that he’s very individually talented but not someone I would say is “hard to play against.” I haven’t seen Cory’s report as I cancelled my athletic sub, but does it mention Carbonneau not being strong defensively? Does it have a heat map that shows most of Carbonneau’s goals are scored from further out in the Zadina spot?

Good prospect? Yes. Similar to MBN? Not at all. And this is a discussion for another thread.
