#1 - McPhee
#2 - Armstrong
#3 - Futa
#4 - Tulsky
His education is in chemistry and physics. He's been in hockey for less than 9 years and an AGM for 2 years, 7 months. He's a less experienced Dubas when Dubi became GM.
This is one ugly list.
There has to be better candidates out there.
McPhee is pretty interesting.
Poile also popped into my head but looks like he's 73 already and I'm not sure if he's fully retired.
His drafting was garbage. His FA signings were garbage. But the man knew how to swing a deal. (No, I am not seriously advocating we bring back Burke).
That pretty much describes Dubas - - except his trading was also garbage.
It's probably going to be him.....
And that sucks. Maybe he'll redeem himself
I don't even think Shanahan knows himself who it will be. Yesterday he said he'd start the process after the press conference...
I would say Treliving should definitely be part of the interviews and discussions. People will look at the Tkachuk trade as the gigantic wart of his tenure. His lack of success in the post-season is just as bad as Dubas as well. But when you look at his signings, drafts and even all the trades... there is a lot worse out there.
They came in last place under Shanahan. Two of the WORST SEASONS EVER were on his watch. Since then they have won a single round in seven tries. One round. Seven tries. Including a whopping six first round losses in a row.The Shanahan regime has been a disaster? I hear stuff like this and I remember how bad things were before him. Systematically took stock of what the Leafs had and made changes. It was a coup when he hired Lou and Hunter and brought Dubas. Had great success in the draft and yet was a disaster. His responsibility is to put people into positions to be successful and I believe he did that. It was on Dubas to construct a team for the ultimate goal. When Babcock made things uncomfortable on players Dubas backed the players. He should have backed the coach. Dubas got rid of anyone that would question him and HIS plan. Shanny gave him all the rope he needed. I think he was beyond supportive of him. Sweet Jesus, from where we were until now and it is a disaster, you have to really think about where that is coming from.

I would say Treliving should definitely be part of the short-list to me. People will look at the Tkachuk trade as the gigantic wart of his tenure, and that's very fair. His lack of success in the post-season is just as bad as Dubas as well. The coaches he has hired were bad too and never lasted long. But when you look at his signings, drafts and even all the trades... there is a lot worse out there. A lot of what makes the Flames good was because of him.
Oh I agree nothings probably been decided.
But Treliviing strikes me as the easy choice from Shannys pov. He's a vet, knows how to do the basics of the job and potentially allows him to hit the ground running.
I don't even think he'd be a terrible hire either - but I don't think he'd be a particularly good one
So you leave your job that you are getting paid handsomely to do for one of the storied franchises because your buddy isn't coming back? Hockey has always been very optical. It is why Shanahan cleared the air yesterday. He wants other organizations to know how the last week of negotiations went. Pridham leaves the same way and he will be viewed the same way and I believe that is not a good look in the NHL. This is Toronto, this is not Arizona.I’m surprised he didn’t pull a Spezza, in fact I’m surprised there wasn’t a total mutiny if you believe the rumoured God like status Dubas held over his staff………
