Can't see them moving him at least until his NMC is gone in two years. I'd prioritise getting rid of Kane $5M
I was about to post I wouldn't mind giving Duke a shot on Calgary since he and Huberdeau have had some success together... but got damn... what the f*** was Lou thinking giving him 4 years?duclair basically got booted off the team and it doesnt sound like roy is going anywhere so thats pure dead cap unless you think Roy is going to be reasonable in said situation
i dont watch the isles regularly and im not going to pretend otherwise but i was told mayfield regressed. The million dollar question is do you believe nurse infront of sorokin would be better than mayfield infront of sorokin. I think so but there is a risk involved. Its also why i said picks would need to be involved in most of what i suggested.
Now mayfield could be great this year and the 2 posters just hate him for some reason, in which case i take it back
What’s scary about Duke is Roy was the one who got him to come to the Island. No idea why he went 4 years but maybe he figured after bouncing around every year, stability might help him out and take some stress away. He got hurt and after coming back he just looked like a shell of himself. I’m guessing the injury never fully healed and he didn’t want to go back on IR to let it recover.I was about to post I wouldn't mind giving Duke a shot on Calgary since he and Huberdeau have had some success together... but got damn... what the f*** was Lou thinking giving him 4 years?
Speaking of the Isles... I'd love for the Flames to get their hands on Romanov.
Thanks for the reminder, Neil.A man needs a maid. Not a nurse.
They could trade for an equally valueless trash contract where the player could maybe help them more and/or the cap hit or years remaining are lower (Jarry, Graves, Huberdeau, Pelech, Zibanejad).Oiler don’t have any 1sts til 2027. They have very few sweeteners if any that would be required to dump Nurse’s nuclear waste.
PIT throws in Letang with some retention and Oilers throw in Skinner
Jones is betterI think we saw with Seth Jones that defensemen has SIGNIFICANTLY more trade value than HF wants to admit. Before the trade so many people were saying exactly the same thing about Jones as they are about Nurse "attach a 1st... etc"... but then with a smaller retention, the Hawks got back an unprotected 1st in 2026 or 2027 and a young goalie that was a recent(ish) 1st rounder and is touted to be one of the best goalies of the future. Without retention, I think the Hawks still get Knight, who I think still has at least 2nd round value.
The way people talk about Nurse, he might be one of the most underrated defensemen in the NHL now.
Nurse is a really good player SOMETIMES, and having a partner that compliments Nurse's game is also important and not extremely easy to find.Jones is better
I’m sure Lance would say the same thing
Woo what about karlsonHe would be the best defenseman on Pittsburgh. Not sure he would waive for them though. Dubas will need futures back too.
Agreed, Nurse has his games and I do like him.Nurse is a really good player SOMETIMES, and having a partner that compliments Nurse's game is also important and not extremely easy to find.
Some D can pair with basically any kind of D partner. Jones is closer to that side of the spectrum. Put him with a Rielly type or an Ekholm type and he's probably fine either way. Nurse on the other hand is a guy you need to target a specific type of partner for and then sign or trade for them.
Overall I think Jones is better basically always. Sometimes it's close and sometimes it's not. Just my 2 cents whatev that's worth.
In oversimplified terms, Jones is a top pairing guy and Nurse is a 2nd pair guy.
I don't think any moves involving Nurse will help the Oilers compete. At best they clear cap space and have room to overpay for a UFA this summer that likely won't help the team any more than Nurse would.for sure, i dont think it costs a first to dump nurse
that being said you have to factor in LD v RD, most likely no retention vs retention, and an under 25 goalie (who i believe still has potential but at the same time is signed for a cool 4.5 million)
like at the end of the day Florida got Jones for 7 million and Chicago had to take 7 million in cap (Knight 4.5 and 2.5). The cap wash allowed Chicago to get more in return. Edmonton cant do that here. I listed some options earlier in the thread and frankly none of those options actually help the oilers compete
The Oilers are going to have to make some big changes if they're serious about becoming a winning team.
Number one, from an on the ice perspective, is adding a goalie. Number two, from a cap and contracts perspective, according to SOME people, is getting rid of Nurse and his big cap hit contract running until 2030.
We've heard before that trading Nurse would be nearly impossible, but some factors have changed. The cap is going to be rising a lot, and the non-playoff teams aren't all the same teams as there were 2 or 3 years ago.
Could there be a fit now where there wasn't previously? Where?
Only fit is Zib, if he waives, unlikely but he might to play w/McD + LeoDraiHe’s going to the rangers
Pay the Sabres to take him via picks and prospects? He would help their D, they dont spend to the cap.
This made me chuckle because the thread title reminded me of this:
Yea as long as he is playing for the opposition. The Kings would love Nurse to stay in Edmonton
Absolutely notHe would be the best defenseman on Pittsburgh. Not sure he would waive for them though. Dubas will need futures back too.
