Who wins the Conn Smythe?

As we come down to the final games of the SCF, who do you have?

Mod Warning:

Please keep this thread on topic, which is about the teams and players in the SCF.

This is not a thread about Toronto, Toronto fans, Matthews, or McDavid. If you derail the thread, you will be warned and/or thread banned.

Thank you

I would assume Marner barring a melt down. He's been the best player on the ice this series.
It would take three straight Freddy shutouts or three straight Hall/Stankoven OT winners for anyone other than Marner to deserve it at this point. Marner has the most impressive numbers over the whole post season and put up one of the greatest games in Stanley Cup finals history.

Nah if Carolina storms back I could see Hall, Stankoven or Andersen still take it - the latter only if he can shake off a horrendous Game 3 performance.

If Vegas wins it's obviously Marner though.
Stankoven would have to score like 5 or 6 goals the rest of the series to win it, IMO. Similarly, Hall would have to get in the 25+ point range to win it.

I dunno, I feel like the league (or the writers, more accurately) would rather not get into the habit of skaters from the losing team winning Playoff MVP.

Before McDavid a couple years back wasn't Reggie Leach the last to do it?

Twice in three years would be wild.

If Carolina wins after going 12-1 the first three rounds…and they pick anyone from Vegas…it would be ridiculous.

You’re talking about a team that would, at worst, be 16-4 in the entire postseason and have beaten the team you’re trying to pick from instead…and the mvp of the tournament came from somewhere else?

Hextall won it after Leach, same with Giguere

Yes, and in fact, before Connor McDavid, Reggie Leach was the only non-goaltender to have won the Conn Smythe while being a member of the defeated team in the finals.

Someone said this in the other thread (before it was severely derailed to other crap), compared McDavid’s performance in the 2024 SCF on a whole other level than Marner this year, when he won it and Edmonton loss. I don’t think that happens if Carolina comes back to win it. Could see either Hall or Stankoven take it. Freddy has been ok these playoffs, but was not even tested too much last series.

Now if Vegas wins, think Marner has it locked down, so I agree. Unless Eichel scores like 10 goals in the next couple of games, lol.

That's where I am with this, which is that somebody would have to be the Canes' hero and the, would deserve the CS. Plus, I think it should only ever go to a winning player.

A part of the reason for that is how often is a dominating player on the losing side? Or how often is the winning team lacking that one player who had a MVP-like run?

I think the reason it happens so rarely is because the winning team usually has at least one player who had a somewhat similar playoff run to that losing team's top player.
