The US won't win a medal next year either don't think their game is suited for international ice. I think they'll need big help from guys like Galchenyuk, Eichel, Hanifin, Trouba and Jones IMO.
For the WHC it really depends on which NHL teams don't make the playoffs and if there are any good US players out of those teams left.
Interestingly enough - if Justin Abdelkader doesn't act like an idiot, the US had a good chance of coming away with a medal for the 2nd year in row. Some of the College and borderline NHL players, actually played really well in the WHC this past spring.
Most of the US kids have won on International ice now, as Juniors, so I don't think the ice size means anything now to players like Galchenyuk, Eichel, Hanifin, Trouba and Jones etc.
