"None of our drafted guys since Sather have ever broken 60 points"

Those are the facts. Or do you not know Zuccarello was an undrafted free agency signing?
Or that one 60+ point season doesn’t make you a reliable 60+ forward, hence why I highlighted Zucc coming close with a 59 point season. But ya know, narratives.

Well, he has to defend his buddy of course. I have rarely seen someone be triggered that easily about anything posted about a single player

Admitedly, the whole 60 point debate does have a few underlying circumstances including injuries, lockouts and deployments.

I don't think it's as straight forward as saying, "The Rangers haven't drafted or developed a 60 point forward."

While it is a true statement, I think there's a number of contributing factors.

Having said that, at some point you gotta produce.

It's always been one of my bigger complaints about Kreider. We can talk about how he should be scoring at a certain level, we can talk about use, we can talk about projecting statistics after surgery/injury, but at the end of the day he always seems to finish around his career average of 21 goals and 45 points.

This year there's a new coach, a new system, and he's expected to be a leader. I want to see him produce significantly more than his career average. This is his moment.

We definitely had players who got more than 60/82 like Stepan in 2013. He's probably the closest we have had to an 80 point player through the draft

You could probably make a decent argument that with different circumstances, Stepan, Miller, Kreider, and Zucc could've/should've/would've gotten to 60.

Some if its timing, some of it injuries, and some of it is on AV.

Looking at the current roster, Kreider and Zibanejad have the talent to score 60. I'd argue that Buch has the talent.

I'd also argue that this team really needs that top line center and have the rest of the roster fall in line behind them. Zibanejad has the talent to be that guy, and we'll see if he can be.

But this upcoming draft also has some really promising center prospects. If they're picking in the top 10 --- especially the top 6 or so, that's where my hope lies.

With everyone healthy and nobody traded I could see something like the following:

Zibanejad: 70 (PP1)
Zuccarello: 60 (PP1)
Buchnevich: 60 (PP1)
Kreider: 60 (PP1)
Shattenkirk: 50 (PP1)
Hayes: 50 (PP2)
Spooner: 50 (limited PP2)
Namestnikov: 40 (No PP time)
Chytil: 40 (limited PP2)
Andersson: 40 (PP2)
DeAngelo: 40 (PP2QB)
Pionk: 30 (PP2 shooter)
Fast: 30 (Spot duty with KZ 5v5, limited PP2)
Skjei: 20 (No PP time)
Vesey: 20
Smith: 20
Staal: 10
Non-regulars: 30

Imagined regular lineup:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich (35%)
Namestnikov-Hayes-Zuccarello (30%)
Andersson-Chytil-Spooner (25%)
Vesey-NR-Fast (10%)

Staal-Shattenkirk (36%)
Skjei-DeAngelo (34%)
Smith-Pionk (30%)

670 points = 251 goals, which would have been an above average offensive team in 2017-18.

That forward group is not terrible. But, sweet Jesus, that is a terrible defense. The 2002/2003 Panthers had a better lineup. I exaggerate, yes, but not by much!

I actually don't think they're THAT bad, you just need to get the combinations right. For example:

Skjei-Shattenkirk
Smith-Pionk
Staal-DeAngelo

Would likely be horrific. But Staal-Shattenkirk was actually a decent pairing last year, Skjei-DeAngelo were fantastic in their short time together, I still think Smith can be a legit 2LD (just don't play him on the right!) and Pionk should be able to do better in a more sheltered role. Those pairings I listed in the previous post may not work out as well as I imagine, but it is not unreasonable to think they just might.

Remember in 13-14 when the defence was an abject disaster before AV realized that he needed to switch up the pairings? While the entire team started out looking hungover that year one of the biggest issues was that Staal-MDZ was such a complete trainwreck (28.7 xGF%!) it didn't matter what the other pairings were doing (e.g. Moore-Strålman were fantastic together).

No matter how the pairings on our defense end up,its still a bottom 10 d group or worse in my eyes.Would need quite a few things need to happen to even get it to middle of the pack.

I see them as lower end of the middle third if they gel well, let's say ~16-20th. If they don't, bottom 5 for sure.

I can agree with this. Many questions need to be answered with them for them to succeed-is Tony D able to finally become a reliable top 6?Will Smith bounce back and return to being a steady player?Skjei?Pionk? Is Shattenkirk ready to lead this group and play tougher minutes? Is he 100% healthy? We have so many questions with this group...i hope for the best.Factor in an entirely new coach and system and it wouldnt be shocking if they all struggle for a good period.

I voted for Zucc, because I think Zib is injury prone unfortuntaely, but I hope he proves me wrong this season. The small hit in his helmet last season was enough for concussion so well I`m worried. And our 7th pick Lias is not on the list is kind of ridiculous, lol. So I changed my vote to Lias Andersson in a minor forum protest - Lias will be our most productive guy on the same line with Zucc next year! You read it first here!! ;)

And so many here believe Zucc get traded it`s almost written in stone, and Panarin is the next Rangers, only on HF Boards! :)
And in before someone insert Lias on our 4th line how rude! :help:

About Lias. He deserve a chance to succeed in NHL and that is definitely not on our 4th line next season. And it`s fine to dislike the pick or player, and if he do a mistake someone will mention his draft year for sure later this year on this forum when the season start in October. But my point is Lias skillset is much better than a typical NHL 4th line energy player.

For some reason, Zibanejad didn't show up in top shape last season. Let's hope he's better prepared for the physical tests this time.

An example, last year Zucc won the bench press with Kreider second. Zibanejad ended up close to the bottom of the list, we need him up there on top with his predicted role as 1C.

There is no way Zucarello benches more than Kreider

If this is even true, they probably scaled it to where you're lifing 70% of your body weight. Much tougher when you're up in the 230's than when you're like 170 lbs.

Well I think you underestimate Zucc's strength, the pic I posted in the fitness thread should give you a clue.

Or perhaps you overestimate Kreider a little, more body weight doesn't necessarily mean more strength. But Kreider had some issues in the shoulder area, this was before his surgery.

Will be interesting to see who wins this time.

Hopefully it's Kreider of Buch, or even Zib, but the chance of all those 3 getting over 60 is miniscule at best
