He has scored at a career 35 goals per 82 games pace.

I highly doubt that Babcock will be the issue if he doesn't hit 55 goals in a season.

I was just talking about Babcock for the purpose of this thread which is about an offensively dominant season. Laine is more likely to become an 40 goal player that will be more responsible defensively than a 55 PP specialist under Babcock. I was not trying to knock the coach or the player.

Oh I didn't think you were. I thought that you were implying that Babcock would hold him back from a potential 50 goal season.

I think you underestimate how difficult it is to hit 100 points. Only one of the Leafs big 4 has done it. I don’t think Bertuzzi is going to come in and be the next one.

Apparently it's pretty easy when you're the 4th forward on Edmonton's PP. Seems like we're entering a high scoring phase as well, so there will likely be more 100 point scorers in the near future. Just 30 years ago there were 21 100 point scorers in one season.

No worries. Now that I see my original post I can see how that was implied. Babcock led teams in general haven’t had many players top the NHL in offensive categories. It is usually down to usage and his commitment to play a clean defensive game. That is just his style of coaching.

I could see JEE taking off and hitting the PPG mark this season. He has gotten better every single year in this league and has really started to show some skill to go with his dominant positional game. He has always been good with the "shovel" ala Kreider, but his shot is also a threat now and he is finally playing with talented players. Playing with 3rd year Boldy and top PP minutes with Kap help the cause over Foligno and Greenway being stapled to his hip.

Now that Bergeron is retired, the Selke will be hotly contested, this is not a dude that needs much motivation to leave it all out there.

Since the questions was about a player having a career outlier--I think Trevor Moore might have one 30-goal season in him. This could be that year.

Frank Vatrano for Anaheim. Best season is 41 points. I could see him flirt with 35 goals and 70 points this year. Highly talented guy (scored 36 goals in 36 games at 21 years old in the AHL) and didnt play crazy minutes last year (16:41) so could jump to the 18-19 minutes range.

Agree. He was already producing at this pace last season. He will be used again as a #1 D and PP quaterback, probably for the 1st time in his career over a full season. With a healthy Caufield, he'll get many PP assists. Definitely a dark horse for hockey poolers.

Vancouver forward depth does have potential if they all click in the same season and Boeser would probably benefit the most from that. Him getting 40+ goals doesn’t seem like a reach after last night. He’s also eligible for a contract extension after this season so it would be the right time.
