Speculation: Who will be the next Rangers Captain?

I thought it should have been Foxy before they announced Trouba. He’s not the vocal guy but he’s a competitor and one of the absolute best players in the game. He’s extremely even keel, never too high and never too low which is a phenomenal leadership trait. He’s also young and he’ll be here for a long time.

This group, right now, to all eyes watching, has no leadership at all. None of these players make sense right now. People need to start leading first before they are elevated. They have 4 A's and none of them do a damned thing in terms of leadership on the ice at least.

I think it's time to retire the C for the Rangers. Despite, at least from the outside, looking like almost every other sporting organisation, for whatever reason the entire concept of a 'captain just doesn't seem to work for them.

So no more captain. My suggestion is either we appoint a 'CEO - on ice affairs' and give then a fancy corner office at the practice facility, or we switch to the term 'Leader' and they can wear a big L on the front of their helmet

The only time captains have kinda worked in recent memory are when they were the unmatched best player on the team (Messier, Jagr). Rangers need to start giving it to the best player on the team. I don't know who that is right now so I'd just leave it blank until it becomes clear.

From current roster, I'd give C to young building block in one of Laf / Cuylle / Schneider. I fear Fox would be hampered by it too much like Mac and Leetch were. Trocheck and Kreider are obvious choices if coaches / mgmt want a bridge to one of them. Beauty is, there's zero rush to name one.

There isn’t a captain on this roster. That shouldn’t even be controversial. Trochek is probably closest but isn’t at all a “core” piece and may not be here in 12 months. Kreider turned it down and has been publicly shopped. Giving him the C is way too much of a “just kidding” from Drury (and also Mika would probably give him a full BJ in front of the entire dressing room, so it’s just not the best idea). Mika, on that note, shouldn’t even be wearing an A, unless it stands for “A basket case”. Fox is a p***y. Laf hasn’t even figured out of his gonna be a consistent top six player, or a middle six underachiever, yet.

Don’t give the C to anyone, for the love of god. And put As on 2-3 people, tops, and leave it at that. No one on this roster deserves it currently. Fox or Laf can step up to claim it. Ditto Schneider. Right now? Absolutely not. No captain.

Trocheck is the best choice on the list.

Kreider could potentially wear the C, that is if the player wasn’t rumored all over the place in Tradetalk. So he’s now at the bottom of the list.

Schneider and Lafreniere for me are neck and neck here. Both option but both are nowhere near done cooking yet. ,Abe a few seasons too early.
