Who Will be Tanking for Gavin Mckenna in 2025 2026

I looked at an online rhyming dictionary for words or phrases that rhyme with Gavin. Not really any good options that would make a cute catchphrase for tanking for him. On a side note I didn't like the phrase "fail for Nail" because "fail" doesn't actually rhyme with how you're supposed to pronounce his name I don't think. I could be wrong on that one.

I could see an intentionall tank in the Habs near future.

One, it worked out OK for the Leafs when they tanked for Matthews.

Two, in order to build and populate a "Robidas Island" you need players with injuries and the Habs have had more than their share of injuries the last few years.

Lol did you actually go back 10 years just to take a shot at the leafs? If you actually watched their games you would realize that the leafs did not intentionally tank that season.

They finished with 69 points, which is significantly higher than most of the last place teams that intentionally tanked.

2015 was a unique situation because being last place guaranteed Buffalo one of McDavid or Eichel. Despite how disappointed Tim Murray seemed, Eichel was perceived to be better than most 1st overall picks. In a worst case scenario, whoever finished last was guaranteed a franchise player that year.

Unless this upcoming draft has 3 legitimate 1st overall talents at the top, tanking won't matter much. You get the best odds at McKenna, but if you don't win the lottery, where does that leave you? Look at how much tanking set Buffalo back.

Tanking teams finish just low enough in the standings to get the number one pick. Number two that season finished with 70 points. The Leafs finished with 69 points because there was no need to rid themselves of roster players to drop further in points.

I watched that season. I saw the Leafs pay to give away Kessel on day one for future picks and prospects. I saw them likewise dump Reimer, Phaneuf and multiple other roster players throughout that season...not for NHL-level players that would produce immediately...but for more future picks and prospects. The tank was undeniably evident and crystal clear.

Buffalo? I never mentioned Buffalo.

If you want to talk Buffalo...they were a bottom 10 team 2 years prior to the Mcdavid draft...a 52 point team the year prior to Mcdavid...and a 54 point team the year of the McDavid draft. If the argument is for a Buffalo tank then they sure went at it for at least two seasons and, most importantly, they sucked at it.

Why would any team emulate Buffalo even if they were tanking? The beauty of the Leaf tank is that it made them a mediocre team with additional yearly post-season revenue.

The Habs are a much more charactered and principled team than the Leafs. It stands to reason that if the Habs instituted a Leaf-like tank for a season, they would bounce back higher and more successfully than Toronto has.
