I'm not sure who remembers the old HFBoards thread regarding this same topic re:McDavid, but it was one of my all time favorites. I'll never forget the person that mentioned they wouldn't trade Jimmy Howard for McDavid. Anyways - let's hear it. Who would you NOT trade on your team for Bedard, 1 for 1?

The list should be very, very short given the cost control that Bedard provides and the huge benefit of having him on his ELC whereas any comparable player is going to come with a ten figure cap hit. For my team the only answer is Ovechkin but that’s more for sentimental reasons than who makes the team better.

Across the league McDavid is the only guy in the “definitely not” category for me. Guys in the “maybe” category are Draisatl, Makar, MacKinnon, and Pasta. Everyone else would be fair game.

Edit: couldn’t see Pittsburgh trading Crosby either.

Condo My Dad Bought Me
Edmonton: McDavid

Colorado: Makar

Pittsburgh: Crosby & Malkin (Only due to sentimental reasons)

Dallas: Heiskanen

Any team with an elite D would probably think hard before trading for a Center. Especially if they already have centers. Even if they aren't as good.

Crosby and Malkin for sentimental reasons.
Great minds think alike lol.

That's the reason I put them as untradeable.

Which is an atrocious business model if Bedard was on the table. Jmo.

Connor Bedard is top 10 in trade value asset across the whole league. And he may be higher than 10, maybe closer to 5.

Habs - I'd trade any combination of 2 (or 3) assets for him.

McDavid is an obvious no in the NHL. But I think for every single other player in the league, the team at least considers it. Including Makar/Draisaitl/MacKinnon/Hughes/Fox etc. A lot of them may still be "no", but the team considers it very seriously at least.

As for Pittsburgh - Crosby and Malkin are great, but Bedard is enough of a game changer that in my opinion Pittsburgh 100% trades either/or for Bedard, sentiments be damned.

ELC vs. 10-15M. There is not one guy that wouldnt be traded for Bedard. Even McDavid. Bedard is the next McDavid and a helluva lt cheaper.

There's absolutely no chance Edmonton trades McDavid for Bedard 1 for 1. 0%.

If you want to argue that in a vacuum, some teams may choose to add Bedard on ELC vs McDavid at current AAV to their teams if given the choice - maybe. But from Edmonton's perspective, no way. They would not do that trade.

I believe I participated in the McDavid thread - or a similar one.

For the Habs, same answer as before. Any combination of 2 assets is yours for Bedard.
3 assets I think I would do most of them. Suzuki + Caufield + 5th OA or Guhle still seem worth to give for a Bedard type talent.

At 4 assets, I think it starts to be difficult to give as that's a full line + 1 asset.

No way would I give up our two best players for Bedard. I think he'll be good, but I still don't think he's as sure of a thing as other 'generational' talent has been in years past.
Suzuki, 5 OA, and Guhle? Sure. But not with CC added (or switch CC or Suzuki).

On the Jets? No one.

Around the league I think the only reasonable answers are McDavid and maybe Makar due to a combination of contract and ability (and that's a big maybe).

It's pretty hard to balance out the value of a potential superstar on an ELC because it's really not a 1-for-1 deal at that point, it's Bedard plus 3 years of whoever you can afford with the cap savings. Even if you think Bedard will only be equivalent to a $7M player over the length of his ELC, that's a huge discount and you still get his rights after that.

Not many players are worth saying no to, though it's tough for some due to position or because a team may be in win now mode. The contract is a plus, sure, but if he is a superstar early, it's only a 3 year reprieve before paying out the nose. I guess it depends a little on what you think he'll be, but I'm not quite sold on him being a McDavid/Crosby type. You look at Makar, and I'm not sure it's worth the positional difference when the team already has MacKinnon and Rantanen. With MacKinnon, maybe you say yes due to the contract, but then you're likely downgrading the team in the mean time, and taking away an emotional leader. Even with someone like Jack Hughes, he's locked up long term for less than a player of his caliber, that if Bedard makes 10+ on his second deal, then it might be better to keep Hughes. I'd say you might get 5-10 players teams would say no to for various reasons.
