Although McD is the better player, narrowly chose Kreider over Zuc.

MVP not who is best player, IMO, though excellence comes into equation?
IMO, who is the difference maker.

So far that is Kreider and Zuc, and others rejuvenated to lesser degree.
McD and Hank remain excellent

But Kreider's whole overall game has changed this team.
Indirectly, it has helped Zuc.

co CK.
But it is subjective, not objective, without enough basis for consensus, IMO.
That is to clarify, all those nominated and receiving votes are worthy.

MVP is who if subtracted from the team would have had the most negative effect so far this season.

Knew if anyone would nominate Kreider it would be you.

You're absolutely drinking way too much 'good for the little guy' kool aid if you think a 50 point winger is more valuable than a 40 point near-Norris quality dman. It's disturbing that Zucc has any lead in this vote, let alone one this big. Just another version of shiny new toy syndrome. McD is old news and this is Zucc's breakout year so he's everyone's hero.

Is Rick seriously in this poll?

This poll was made at the beginning of February, Nash was coming off a very hot month in January. Think he scored 11 goals in 15 games or something like that. Regardless, he still only has 1 vote. Not sure why his inclusion is so shocking.

Worth nothing that Zucc was doing a ppg while this vote took place and essentially carried our offense, outweighing MacTrucks contributions offensively by a landslide at the time.

This thread is a massive hindsight, not really relevant right now

Zucc has cooled down a bit but McD is still going strong.

Either way, both have been the best players this whole season.

There has never been a point in Zuccarello's career as a Ranger when he has been more valuable than Ryan McDonagh.

Zuccarello, no doubt. We are still in the playoff race thanks to him...

McDonagh never takes a night off, plays 25-30 minutes a night shutting down top players, killing penalties and at the same time scoring, setting up team mates and contributing on the power play.

Not only is he the best skater on the team, he's starting to look like one of the leaders out there.

Zuccarello is having an excellent year, but he wouldn't be more important than MCD to this team even if he grew two feet and had Chara's shot power.

its shocking cause he sucks...my guess is the person voting for him was being sarcastic

Yep, because McD is a defenseman, it's not his job to score. And if we don't score we don't win, no matter how good McD is. Simple as that ;)

I thought this post was sarcastic, then I looked a few posts up and realized that your opinion on this is actually that the MVP should be "Zuccarello, no doubt". If you actually believe the statement I quoted above, I don't think you understand hockey very well.

That's why I added the ;)

Yes it was kinda sarcastic, I guess :sarcasm: would be a better choice.

But I'd still go for Zucc. Maybe not a surprise, people say I'm a Zucc fan and a Kreider hater...

So in your words. We don't need McDonagh to score but if we dont score we don't win? Your argument is not at all coherent. If it's a joke I honestly don't get it.

If you don't see the value of a shut down defenseman who can also bring 40+ points to the table, you should either watch a lot more hockey or give it up all together.

Getting that kind of production from the blueline is very valuable. Getting it from a player who's primarily a shut down, defensive defenseman is special.

McDonagh only has 10 less points than our leading scorer, while providing shut down defense. For me, it's Mac AINEC

It really doesn't matter to me, the most successful forward will usually get my vote when it comes to MVP.

Kreider has been a Nash mini-me this season. Disengaged and invisible for large swaths of the season. At least he has an excuse of being young. BUt hes no MVP, thats ridiculous. In fact, you should be eating crow for announcing he has arrived after a few good games a few months ago.

Tough to choose an MVP this season. I guess I'd go with McDonagh if I had to choose.

This x Infinity. I don't even understand how anyone could vote for any other Ranger. The gulf between his contribution and any other Ranger is massive. He is less than 10 points off the TEAM LEAD in points and the guy in second CERTAINLY isn't a metaphorical "10 points" behind McD defensively.

Why is it tough. Who has been nearly as valuable as Mac? Answer: nobody AINEC.
