Not sure who deserve it the most but it has to be someone kinda young , So Markov and Pleky are kinda out for me. Pleky could have been the Cap when Gionta was there but they choose Gio over Pleky , As long that Galchenyuk not playing in the Centre it shouldnt be him , why you ask? well simple if he can play in is normal position cause of lack of maturity or less responsibility then I wouldnt give him more pressure, As for Subban well he still makes mistake on the ice , but I love how he wants to win and talent wise he's probably our best player excluding Price of course . To me Pacioretty should win it next season I think , he's the kinda logical choice we have , he's quiet in a way , a bit like bergeron , not the best in the league but overall very solide , doesnt take bad penalities , very sportmenships and if Montreal have to choose someone its gotta be him or leave it 4 captain which doesnt matter to me. As for Gallagher well , he got the heart of a true team player but would you listen him in the room if the team keep losing ? I doubt he would be the best room talk player.

Captains don't have to be saints on the ice. Take Dustin Browns for example, he dives and plays dirty at times, but he's willing to do anything to help his team win when it matters the most. If Browns gets traded, Doughty will be the next captain for the Kings, he isn't much better than Subban, he loses his cool easily and often chirps the referees after being penalized. Take a look at the captains around the league and tell me why Subban would be a bad choice.

Subban's performance in the post season puts him over the top for the captain. Pacioretty the first alternate.

I don't think giving Markov the C is smart, if he's going to retire in a year or two.

Plekanec is the next best guy, but he's on the decline.

I recommend you try to read my post again.

Subban is an ideal captain for many reasons but his antics on the ice - and yes they are antics - detract from his persona. He's continued to dive, fart and play dirty into the playoffs - opposing players won't respect him, refs won't give him the light of day (clear crosscheck to his face - not called because "hey, it's Subban") and even his own teammates must have been furious after he left them short a man with over half a game left to play.

Otherwise, he'd a be a perfect captain.

Are you still on about the farts?! Jesus, how about you let go of an interseason interview joke?

Opposing players have given plenty of respect to dirty cheapshot artists and divers like Chara and Pronger, and they have been lauded as great captains of their respective teams. Subban is not nearly as dirty as these guys, and yet he is way more charismatic and clutcher.

Not all captain has to fit the nice lil' boyscout mold. And even if someone adheres to that mold, sometimes theres a bit of the person's true self cracking out. Just lool at Crosby, who had to shape himself into something he is not.

Subban? He is 100% genuine.

It's not about performance, but about leadership. Pacioretty is by far the frontrunner, and Plekanec would be number 2.

Which is not what you want in a leader. As he said, Subban has too many antics (you just can't have a captain who dives), and loses focus too easilly when emotions gets the best of him. Great player, love him, but he's not captain material.

Subban is playing 30min a game in the playoffs!! He is front and center in everything the team and opposing team does! His teammates feed of his energy! What do you call that?

Subban for me.

Pacioretty is too much of a stereotypical NHL team captain and I personally want something different.

Subban AINEC for me. He shows up every game, you never , ever have to worry about his compete level, once again Patches is looking like a passenger.

To me, it's PK/Markov or Gallagher. Patches wouldn't be on my list.

Our captain is Carey Price.

No reason to give the C to anyone really. It's not like there are any benefits.

the team is scoring 4 goals per game when hes not in the lineup and only 1.5 when hes in.... what kind of leadership is that?

I am sorry, but where do you get all that?

Do you realize of how much abuse Subban puts up with game after game by most opposition, all the while thriving and not losing his cool? It took a centerice unpenalized stick smash to the face to make him lose his head; name me a single captain who wouldnt have answered to that event.

Beliveau, Crosby, Orr, Messier.. All of those would have answered to that sort of blatant hit. Being a captain is not about being a robot and having no emotion.

And yet, despite one folly shift, did it threw.Subban off his game? No. He went back into the fold and was a playa all night.

Subban is genuine. He isnt an hypocrite boyscout who follow the mold because that is what he has been convinced to be. What he shows is his true self, and it will keep evolving, maturing. Its no mask that can crack during harsh times like Crosby's currently is.

Hell, for all the praise Markov is getting as a captain, he do loses his mind once in a while. He turns violent, petty and retributive when he is sufficiently provoked, and yet no one calls him a hotheat. Remember game 6 against the Bruins, with all the stickwork antics?!

We will be better off with a bina fide clutch performer whose natural demeanor often is about his teammates first. The triple-low-5 was started as a schlick by Subban to rise Price's morale after being boo'ed by our fanbase and having a very hard 2009-10 season. It wasnt about being in the spotlight, it was about being there for his friend ans goalie.

While i am persuaded that Subban isnt necessarily liked as a casual friend by all of his teammates, i do not doubt that any of them would believe Subban would be there for them if they needed, and that he would cheer them on after a costly mistake to try and rise themselves out of the hole.

You dont necessarily have to like a leader. But you do follow him in the trail he blazes.

Until Max wakes the hell up and actually does something in the playoffs he shouldnt be considered for the captaincy. Pk on the other hand is a gamer. He elevates his play for the playoffs. That's what a good captain does.

For me it is Subban. Subban to me is a guy who will make people follow him. Pacioretty strikes me as the kind of guy who people could follow but he's just missing that little something that Subban has.

In the earlier version of this poll, I voted Pleks. I still would be thrilled if he got it. As the season went on, I thought it should be Patch, since he did everything that a captain should, including modify his whininess. ATM, I'm thinking PK cuz he's just proven time and again that he's a playoff hero (ok, well, Weise needs to do a bit more to be considered). I am reserving judgement, because I want to see how Patch performs down the stretch. I'm not impressed so far, but then again, gotta take in the fact that he's not all there yet. I do think he really really cares about this team and for the entire season, practically, he really came up huge for us, really led.

I don't think I would be upset if Brendan Gallagher was named captain. Everyone keeps saying he's going to slow down and won't be the same, and he just keeps getting better. I actually think he's the epitome of a captain since I can find something about the other three that's a knock on captaincy, but I can't on Gally.

BTW, I think it's unfair to call Max a boyscout just because he has been super dedicated and is not as disliked as Subban. The guy wants to win at all costs and has learned the importance of 2 way play. Oink Oink Oink, Kennedy!

for awhile I was leaning towards Patches, and still think he would make a good captain, but the more I see Suban play, and speak, I just think hes the type of guy who would take an opportunity like being captain very serious and could ultimately even improve his game and on ice demeanor. The only fault to his game currently is taking way too many dumb penalties. IMO

I'd honestly give the C to Price... Pacioretty/Subban is too hard of a call to make. Carey Price won't suddenly get bad, he'll be our #1 for a longggg time.

I see 2 main reasons why:

1. Pacioretty tends to disappear in the playoffs. As unfair as it is for me to say that, a regular-season forward really isn't good material to be a captain...

2. Subban is just TOO polarizing. He deserves the A forever, but the C is just too much for him to handle I believe.

Subban, because he's the only one on the team that can singlehandedly raise this team on his back. it's not just goals and points, it's the emotion, he wants to win at all costs...

Markov is the real leader until he retires, He get's an A.

Gallagher should get the other A. He also bring it every game like Subban.

Patches is a great player and goal scorer, but i dont think he's a leader because like most goal scorers he can be invisible at times....Maybe he gets an A after Markov retires.

Pacioretty....cool, calm and collective. Even keel type of personality, not too many ups and not to many downs, exactly the way you want your leadership to be.

Has to be Max. With his play and his recent comments about never feeling closer or such a part of the city I don't see how it can't be him.
