I'm not sure what the criteria here is but if we are talking playoff teams .. oilers will have the second best starter and second best backup in every game. We also only have 1 Right D who is very good but can't defend the best. While the other 2 are either not RD or not that good at it.lol

Top that!

Depends on the day, some days us... other days someone else.
Like team defence?

Defencemen?

Who do you think OP?

Too much to ask... I'm out

But I'll stick with my original answers, depends on the day, we can play like the best D or the worst D,

Going to go with just defenseman and not team defense:

Dallas has the most obvious clear weakness with their right side, even when/if Heiskanen returns. Toronto's depth is good but Reilly is the clear worst #1 of any playoff team. The bottom pairs for Colorado, Winnipeg, and Edmonton are all almost at "shouldn't play them in a playoff OT" level for me. CBJ is in biggest need of a clear #2.

Add it all together and I think CBJ is probably the "worst" or least talented group overall, although Toronto's lack of a true #1 puts theirs at "most likely to impede a deep playoff run"

This is Dallas.

Ceci, Lyubushkin, Dumba are a d-core of a team trying to tank not compete. Then throw in Smith for good measure too.
Fortunately there's Heiskanen (when healthy) and Harley to do all the heavy lifting

That's just because we haven't figured out how to Frankenstein our 5 bottom pairing D-men into 2 capable ones yet. If we do before April, look out!

Playoff hunt?
Calgary has to be really up high here. Joel Hanley, a career 6/7D character guy is playing top 4 for us, every night; and he has been by far the best option.

From the eye test, for me, it's:

1) Edmonton
2) Toronto
3) Winnipeg (I'm not including goalies in my evaluation)
4) Columbus
5) Dallas (would change if Heiskanen is able to return)

Toronto with bad goaltending and without Tanev sure, but I don’t believe this will continue.

Team stats say Columbus.

Edmonton is interesting considering so many are picking them.

Edmonton league ranking this season for team defensive stats:

Fewest shots allowed: 10th
Fewest scoring chances allowed: 7th
Fewest high danger chances allowed: 1st
xGA against: 8th
Goals Against: 15th
Team save%: 19th

Stats say a good defensive team with below average goaltending.

All depends on how much they pay "Pajamas" and Marner to stay.

Not sure what that has to do with this other than the fact Tavares is playing maybe the best D of his career the last while and Marner is one of the better defensive wingers in the league. 2 of the 4 MVPs on the team (Tanev and Stolarz the other 2) and I think Toronto is barely a playoff bubble team without them. Only a fool would not be trying to keep those 2 in the fold somehow.

Considering much of the Toronto fanbase and media is clueless about defensive hockey, (they still dont even realize that Keefe was a defensive system coach and Berube is not) not going to get much honesty about the state of the Leafs defensively.

Columbus is the worst and then the Leafs.
That is the truth.

I'd take any team's over Toronto's, not really close.

As bad as the Leafs have been defensively, having Stolarz makes a huge difference heading into the playoffs for us. Campbell/Samsonov starter for 4 years sucked hard.

Why on earth didnt you guys change up your keeper? It's your only big hole now.
