Mikko Rantanen and Oskar Lindblom. I never expected them to have as good of a tournament as they did. Bjorkstrand was also insanely good for Denmark.

Kapenen disappointed me, and Buchnevich hasn't looked as impressive as I thought he would.

I can't believe it took people 4 pages to mention Lindblom for the 2nd time.

He was the easiest answer for me. I was annoyed when Nylander got put with linemates that I didn't know, boy was I surprised.

If you had asked me who would lead the tournament in scoring Lindblom would probably have been my 100th guess.

Forsling too though, and Godla

Bowey for me,

He was awful in the pre-tourny. Really improved as the tourny went, surprised me a lot.

HM:
Domi
Fabbri
Petan
Nurse
Virtanen

Non Can:
Lindblom
Eichel
SweAho
Forsling
Puljujarvi

Nikolaj Ehlers of Denmark. The kid has some mad skills, which for a player from Denmark is completely surprising. Would not be surprised to see him in the NHL.

Rantanen and Forsling for me. Kempe has been much better than I thought too but to people who follow him that might not have been a surprise.

Max Domi hands down. He's just unbelievable. I can see him being on olympic/world cup team Canada one day, no kidding. His passing, vision, skating and shooting is something that will make him an 80/90-point player in the NHL I believe.

I second Bowey. I hadn't really heard of him before this tournament and he's looked outstanding at times. Washington may have a gem in him. I also didn't realize how good Nurse's skating was.

Lindblom has been good, but he has really been feeding off of Nylander.

Forsling has been great on the offence. However, his offence is not on an Erik Karlsson potential level that it needs to be to make up for his lacking defence.

So Lindblom is finishing chances....hmmm.

Did anyone expect Lindblom to be near the top scorers before the tourney?

No! Hence, it's a surprise.

How is Ehlers surprising? That's why he was drafted so high.

The only explanation that makes sense is if a tree grows in Denmark and is transplanted and falls in a forest in Winnipeg does anyone really notice. :sarcasm:

Ok seriously I think the logical explanation is for the vast majority of fans that tune in and watch the WJC this is the first look they are getting at kids like Ehlers or Nylander in game competition against their age group.

For sure those who get surprised by Ehlers, c'mon! Take your homie glasses off and go google a bit before posting. The guy was top10 pick the last year! Same goes to Reinhart and others who were picked high ... there's literally no point to get surprised.

So by that standards, Sebastian Aho of Sweden has been the biggest surprise to every scout and organization, as he's performing on very high level and is still undrafted (if he indeed was possible to be drafted). He's not even 7th round pick 200.

You do realize what division the Coyotes play in right?

I have been giving quite a lot of credit to Hägg (after his poor start) though, and none to Kapanen ;)

Well...Hagg was garbage to start...then got better.

And it's not hard to give no credit to Kappy based on how he played.

And just so you know....I did defend Kappy earlier saying expectations need to be lower considering where he was drafted. He was not a top pick for a reason.

If the hype was any indication of how good of a player he is/was then he would have been much more of an impact last year already. I'm not surprised in the slightest.

Coming off of a 6 week injury to come onto a team with players he doesnt play with regularly. Hes produced just as much as sidney crosby did at this tournament but nice try on the hype theory. best player in this tournament is mcdavid

Sharov - no one seemed to be talking about him, but he ended up being one of the most dangerous Russian forwards.

Yeah, everyone knew he'd be in the NHL before he was drafted.

I just hate how they say his name in the media.

I haven't heard it pronounced wrong.

Virtanen has sucked, which is surprising. Ritchie has some skill but I don't think he's top end talent.
