I'm not saying he's a bust. But from the hype he's getting you should expect him to dominate this tournament. He had no business even being in the tourney as a 16 year old. I'm sure there were other players that could have filled that spot better. As a 17 year old he's still not an impact player and Canada plays him on the PP. He's getting his fair share of minutes. This tournament was the perfect opportunity for him to prove he's the real deal. I'm sure he'll carve out a decent career for himself in the NHL and land a fat paycheck. But generational talent my ass.

And that's why you're not the GM or scout for an NHL team. He's a 17 year old tied for 6th in tournament scoring (2pts off of first), who just missed over a month with a broken hand. But yeah...he'll probably be a decent player...maybe a good second liner on a cup-calibre team.

He's currently 9th in scoring in the OHL. All but Domi have played at least 35 games...he's played 18. He could play in the WJC 2 more times and then I'm sure you might see a bit more domination. But unfortunately, he'll probably be assuming his role on the 3rd line, grinding out points for some NHL team who will be very underwhelmed with him because he's all hype...at least according to you. :help:

1: Reinhart can't be a surprise. He was drafted 2nd overall.
2: Domi and Petan are scary. I knew they were good but this is just downright crazy.
3: Richie seems a lot more committed to playing meaningful hockey than his MO suggests.

I haven't had the chance to watch much of the tournament but when I did, Bowey grabbed my attention. I didn't really know who he was, but he looks like a solid prospect. It isn't very often I have a "who is that" moment, so he's my surprise.

agree on all the above, good post.

When I fell in love with the WJC

Domi and that Russian Goalie

The Russian goalie, and the danish one as well. The danish one was amazing at the beginning of the game against Canada. There's only so long you can keep that up. It was an onslaught.

Aho for me, never heard of this kid before the tournament but man he has impressed, I know his size gets mentioned a lot but I don't think that will be much of an issue if he can move the puck like he has in this tournament. He has a skill that unfortunately not many D-men have..he knows how to get the puck through to the net. Very accurate point shot and it seems to get through to the goalie every single time, NHL teams are going to be looking at specific things like that. He's on my radar in the upcoming draft.

Sorensen was another player that stood out, unbelievable job helping Denmark get to the QF. Crouse, Nurse, Bowey caught my eye too

Two players are tied for the tournament scoring lead. Both were 2014 picks. One was second overall, the other 138th overall.

The former has several mentions in this thread, and the latter has one...

Hands down for team canada it's been petan. Didn't expect him to be driving most of team Canada's offence from the third line (especially the first two games).

I don't think he was on anyone's radar for this kind of production prior to the tournament.

Also have loved watching den marks goalie, Sorensen.

Petan has been a production machine in junior, especially with canada.

Suprises are guys like.. Lindblom, Forsling, and noah rod.

Mcdavid has 7 points in 5 games and people are saying hes not producing like he should.. when did over point per game become unacceptable? Hes 2 Points from tournament lead. Creating chances everytime he has the puck. this kids the real deal and his class and talent blew eichel out.of the water. I think 1st overall was determined in this tournament

Connor mcdavid has 11 points in 12 world junior games
Sidney crosby has 14 points in 12 world junior games

But mcdavid hasnt been very noticeable he must be overhyped. I mean when hes flying down the ice dangling half the opposition and the dishing it off to a wide open teammate every single shift or even creating his own scoring chances that cant be considered production, the only way hes producing is if hes getting 4-5 points a game. only then will i beleive hes generational.

Nice post lindblom is a great looking draft choice for the Flyers and at 138 its good a kid even makes the team let alone putting up 9 points in 5 games. Wished I would have picked him up in my junior pool although I did snag Forsling late :handclap:

Don't forget the guy drafted 8th overall.

I wouldn't say he has been a surprise though which is what the OP was asking. People were expecting William to be very good which he has been. lindblom tied for the lead is shocking.

Oh I wasn't talking about him being a surprise, that was for the poster I quoted forgetting to mention that he's tied with Reinhart and Lindy in scoring. Lindblom looks fantastic though, great pick for the flyers in the fourth round

Ah ok got it. Nylander looks great BTW, he is as advertised which is next to impossible for a leafs prospect to live up to :p::sarcasm::laugh:

Homer vote but Petan has been good. He's got great vision and makes slick tape to tape passes. He's playing behind Reinhart and McDavid (rightfully so IMO), but he makes something happen every time he touches the ice.

Nurse has looked great, Puljarvi(sp?) has looked awesome.
Domi looks great and Nylander looks great as well

Rod looks very good for Switzerland, I think he might be able to carve out a career as a 4th liner.

Goldobin is very meh. He's looked good when he's in scoring positions, but is mediocre when not. Still think he will be a top6 RW'er, but he has some work to do.

Mueller has pretty good, but it's obvious he's been coasting through most of the tournament.

Hanifin has been better than both McDavid (sans including Canada's last game) and Eichel. That kid is going to be good.

Hintz has been very good, same with Aho, Lindblom, and Rantanen.

Sharov has impressed me as well.

All these brilliant hockey minds expected his performance I guess.

So many idiots on here.

Lindblom has been good, but he has really been feeding off of Nylander.

Forsling has been great on the offence. However, his offence is not on an Erik Karlsson potential level that it needs to be to make up for his lacking defence.
