I have said for a while that Spezza should of been the captain a long time ago just not over Alfie. It may have stunted his growth as a leader. He is ready for it now but I think it is a few years too late.

Alfredsson should have been asked to give up the captaincy as soon as he delayed returning last summer and it should have gone to Spezza. There is no way Karlsson should get an A ahead of guys like Neil, Phillips, Methot or Turris. EK has some maturing to do.

To me, a captain should either be your best player, or your most impactful one.

Karlsson is too young for the title, so I'd have to say Spezza, and by a landslide.

He's now the face of the team, and it sinks or swims with him at the helm.

I think having a captain's C on his chest, will mature him even more, and put the kind of pressure and responsibility he's admitted to relishing, on his shoulders.

Karlsson is not to young. Look at toews and Crosby. Steve Yzerman wasn't too young. Spezza is not the guy you want leading a team especially when his back has been an issue over the last few years.

While Karlsson it's a nice thought to have Karlsson wearing an A, I think Methot would be more suitable in that role, followed by Neil who have both performed spot duty in that role.

Jason Spezza.

Once the rebuild started, Spezza showed off awesome leadership. You can see him mentoring players and helping them mature on the ice. Seems like it would be the same off the ice.

Phillips is a great leader but not sure he'd really enjoy all the spotlight of being a captain. Plus he probably only has a few years left in him.

Assuming that they plan on keeping Spezza after his current contract expires, then Spezza.

There is always a chance that they might not want to keep him around for that, in which case you go with someone who wont be around in the league much longer, like Philips, and then give it to Karlsson or Cowen, or someone else who is one of the youngs guns right now.

I dont think Karlsson is Captain material...yet.... Also dont want another Swedish captain after Alfie

I've heard this rumor aswell. To me it sounds more like an excuse to leave. There's no way Chara actually thought Alfie would lose his C, right? I don't know, it's probably different from every individual, but to me, a real leader doesn't need a letter on his chest to lead or to prove anything. So if you somehow demand to be named a captain of your team, in my opinion, you don't deserve it. But I understand your argument.

i want to give it to phillips, but spezza might walk soon, so give it to him,

i know if the only thing keeping spezza here is a c we should let him walk, well let me tell you guys something we CAN"t afford to let spezza or ryan walk. we gave up too much for him. Give Spezza the C, and Ryan the A, for the first time Ryan will feel he has a role on the team, Niel won't care about a letter, his role above that of a captain already.
