I read what you said and *what you said was wrong. He has done a lot since his first game to warrant a big deal. By that I mean a 4 Y, 4.5 contract. What he's done is **provided this team with a second PP unit which it didn't have. He's provide this team with a legit forward in front of the net which it didn't have. He's provide the team with a legit tough forward who can protect the team with 40 to 50 point potential which it didn't have. That is what he brings every game.
For starter, ***teams aren't handing out 7 to 8 year contracts to non star players unless they are beyond stupid or have to make the cap floor. The Rangers are neither. ^Second, you look at players based off of stats. What Clowe brings other than stats are things that no other forward on this team can bring. That is why Sather give up the picks he did for him. You are out of your mind if you think ^^Sather gave up potentially 2 second round picks and a third rounder for a guy he's going to let go. Especially, when he brings intangibles that other forwards on the roster can't.
* 5 games has earned him a 4-year deal?
![amazed :amazed: :amazed:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/amazed.gif)
i dunno how to respond to that
** Zucc and Brassard... You make it sound like clowe's our lone PP savior.
*** i'm well aware of that, bud. that doesn't mean that's not what he was rumored to be asking for.
^ I don't see why you assume that I'm basing his first game on his 'stats'. He was all over the ice that game. He was finding the puck, making plays, physical at the right times. That was his best game hands down. the stats don't make that his best game-- his elevated play did and the stats were a reward for that. sometimes you play that well and get robbed and your points don't reflect your performance. i don't think he's played like that every game though. (man, do we get robbed night in and out this season!)
^^for your argument you only needed to mention the one 2nd pick. the other is completely irrelevant because we don't give it up unless we sign him. yes, i could see sather giving up a 2nd and 3rd for a guy that he thinks helps us get to the playoffs. i could see him giving up another 2nd to resign him
if the price is right.
basically this is one we're going to have to agree to disagree on. I don't think sather is going to give him a big contract based on his performance in 5 games. we'll see though. maybe he'll drop his price big time for us. signing him is certainly not a guarantee though and that's all i was trying to say.
either way... the priority is stepan and mcdonagh. hagelin and clowe at the right price would be a plus, but i'm not worried about them. hope stepan doesn't leave us waiting.
