Who gets first this summer? I think it will be Step first, 3 years 3.5- first year 4.0 second year-4.0 third year. Mac Truck will be second 4.0 first year 4.5 second year and 4.5 third year and Hags third 2.5 -2.5.

I think Steps will be the hardest one to get done.

Thoughts...........

In order of first to last:

Hagelin
McDonagh
Stepan

No specific reason why, but just my guess.

And how could you think Stepan will be the hardest to get done if you also think he will be the first to sign?

I hope Sather can continue on his line with the bridge contracts.. I don't wanna see the Rangers end up paying Stepan as a 65p player for 4-6 years when he could (not saying he will) regress next year a little bit.

stepan then mcdonagh then hagelin. i think hagelin is going to be the hardest to sign. seems a little cockier.

clowe is the only one i'm not sure about... idk if he's going to take what we're willing to offer him. certainly hasn't done anything to earn a big year deal since the first game.OH and ZUCC!

I want no piece of Stepan and McD getting available for offer sheets. They could easily be our #1 D and #1 C for 5 to 10 years. Not that anyone would wanna mess with Sather, but you can never know with the Holmgrens of the world. Get them signed first, take care of Hagelin later.

Of those three, I would say Hags are the least important deal. But I wanna keep all three.

Stepan, McDonagh, Hagelin in order of importance. Although Hagelin might go first since it'll be easier.

I dont think McDonagh deserves or will get more than $4M per

no worries about offer sheets.. We will match all deals.. Even if we're over cap.. buyout for richards before loosing any of our RFAs..

Stepan will prob get bridge contract 2-3yrs 3-3.5m AAV (Grioux, Duschene, Coutier)
Mcd will prob get staal type contract 5yr- 3.975m AAV
Hags will get 2yr 1.875m (AA)-2.3m (Callahan) somewhere betweeen there..

MZA will be interesting.. to me, he'll likely sign 2yr deal 1.5-1.75m AAV and be UFA at the end of the deal..

It's not really the other Gms that would be messing with Sather, it would be the Rangers players. Other Gms can offer all the want its up to the player to sign it, essentially wanting out of NY. I don't see either Step or McD doing that since they've said how much they love it here, get treated like kings, and have the best goaltender on the world on their team.

Hagelin, even though he's last in importance (which is a testament to Step and McD).

Doesn't mean they want out of new york as much as it means they want a big contract they feel they are deserving of. It's a business, and if Sather is trying to get them for as little as possible (his job) and they can lock up a nice contract via an offer sheet to force his hand that's all part of the game.

I agree with a few above posters.

Two year bridge-deals for Stepan and Hagelin. Lock up McD long-term.

I'd say, Stepan - Hagelin - McDonagh, in that order. McDonagh last only because his deal will be the long-term one.

who gives a **** who signs first ... were in a playoff race... as long as all three of them are signed who cares what order etc...

slats will get it done

If you don't think he's done anything since the first game, you are just a stats fan. Clowe has brought a presence in front of the net that nobody else on this team can provide. Cally is a small guy. He's really not much of a screen in front. Clowe also has the ability to take on some pretty tough players and protect the guys on this line while being able to play the game. He's also good on the PP. Clowe is a huge priority to resign.

Of the RFAs, it will be Hagelin, McD, then Stepan. I wouldn't be surprised if Clowe re-signs before all of them.

Both Hagelin and McD are arbitration eligible. If they elect arbitration, they cannot sign an offer sheet. Stepan has no leverage other than signing an offer sheet, but if he does sign one, it will be very late in the summer or early in the season, a la ROR. So there's a very good chance it will take a while to get him signed as his agent tries to squeeze more out of Sather, but eventually he will sign.

apparently you didn't read what i wrote or read it wrong or whatever, so i'll say it again---

as i said... he hasn't done anything to warrant a "big year" deal. IE the 8 years that he was rumored to be asking san jose for...
do we want him? yes.
do we want him for 8 years if he's not producing and nothing more than a grinder(albeit better than most of the ones we have)? **** no!!

I read what you said and what you said was wrong. He has done a lot since his first game to warrant a big deal. By that I mean a 4 Y, 4.5 contract. What he's done is provided this team with a second PP unit which it didn't have. He's provide this team with a legit forward in front of the net which it didn't have. He's provide the team with a legit tough forward who can protect the team with 40 to 50 point potential which it didn't have. That is what he brings every game.

For starter, teams aren't handing out 7 to 8 year contracts to non star players unless they are beyond stupid or have to make the cap floor. The Rangers are neither. Second, you look at players based off of stats. What Clowe brings other than stats are things that no other forward on this team can bring. That is why Sather give up the picks he did for him. You are out of your mind if you think Sather gave up potentially 2 second round picks and a third rounder for a guy he's going to let go. Especially, when he brings intangibles that other forwards on the roster can't.

Basically this. If McD gets offered crazy money, lets say 5 to 5.5 over 5 or 6 years, then compares it to what Sather has been handing out to DZ and Staal, that's a very tough offer to reject.
Suter indicated he liked it in NSH. What are players supposed to say, anyway? "NY is a dump and I wanna get out of here asap."? Also, their managers certainly are a factor. All in all, the whole process is just not that simple.
Note: I'm 100% confident, we will resign our RFAs. I just don't want to underestimate other teams.

* 5 games has earned him a 4-year deal? :amazed: i dunno how to respond to that

** Zucc and Brassard... You make it sound like clowe's our lone PP savior.

*** i'm well aware of that, bud. that doesn't mean that's not what he was rumored to be asking for.

^ I don't see why you assume that I'm basing his first game on his 'stats'. He was all over the ice that game. He was finding the puck, making plays, physical at the right times. That was his best game hands down. the stats don't make that his best game-- his elevated play did and the stats were a reward for that. sometimes you play that well and get robbed and your points don't reflect your performance. i don't think he's played like that every game though. (man, do we get robbed night in and out this season!)

^^for your argument you only needed to mention the one 2nd pick. the other is completely irrelevant because we don't give it up unless we sign him. yes, i could see sather giving up a 2nd and 3rd for a guy that he thinks helps us get to the playoffs. i could see him giving up another 2nd to resign him if the price is right.

basically this is one we're going to have to agree to disagree on. I don't think sather is going to give him a big contract based on his performance in 5 games. we'll see though. maybe he'll drop his price big time for us. signing him is certainly not a guarantee though and that's all i was trying to say.

either way... the priority is stepan and mcdonagh. hagelin and clowe at the right price would be a plus, but i'm not worried about them. hope stepan doesn't leave us waiting.

Could not say who they will sign first. Don't care actually. They just better lock up all three.
