The Senators are clearly getting all top three picks
The Senators if they play their cards right will make the current team into Stanley Cup contenders with this draft almost by itself...they have like 9 picks(3 first rounders,4,second rounders and 2 thirds) inside 71 slots or something like that...that's about 1 choice every 8 picks...great odds...brings back memories of when the Montreal Canadiens un-earthed 11-12 prospects in one draft(1974) that played considerable time in the NHL or WHA or both! Wishing them to have their best eyes on the prospects and for them to return to the Stanley Cup final...perhaps not as the Senators but as the Quebec Nordiques 2.0

Well, with Stutzle available I’m not 100% convinced you guys go with Byfield. Just doesn’t seem like a sure thing to me. Now the first pick, that’s a sure thing. We will find out in October though.
If there was stock to be bought on this choice I'd buy up everything I had on Quinton Byfield and then quickly cashing out that's how certain I am! Pencil him in boyz with Strudel going to Ottawa...The thing I'd be looking at is...with so many centres in LA who do we peddle...Vilardi for Buffalo's first(8th overall) since they've been looking for a 2nd line centre since forever and Middlestadt is not it and Cozens doesn't have the wheels and playmaking ability to be that guy either though young Cozens could a decent-to-good RWinger...forget Middlestadt...in his rush to get to the NHL he forgot to work on his strength and conditioning and the Sabres sending him to Rochester kind of sealed his fate!

Its a given that Kings fans should point and laugh at Sharks fans.
Get with the program cat dude.

Imagine if Lombardi pulled his Richards, Carter double and instead of immediately winning Cups, the Kings had a good run to the WCF and then into the tank and the 3rd worst record in the league? Evander Kane and Karlsson was their gambit equivalent of getting over the hump.

It’s Stutzle not Strudel!

There's no chance LA drafts Drysdale? A top notch defenseman is so key, look at the playoffs.

No way, you could easily trade for a better defenseman than Drysdale by drafting Byfield if that was your goal. Every team in the league will listen to a trade proposal if you turned around and threw him or that pick in the mix.

Easily? Who has a young D to spare?

No. At #2 he better be Doughty/Hedman level, 2 other #2 overall picks. Franchise defensemen. I don't see that level of talent. And Doughty is still on the team. I'm more confident Byfield becomes a franchise center than Drysdale becomes a number 1 defenseman.

You're right that young D are hard to come by but Drysdale would be a colossal waste of a #2 pick with so much other elite forward talent still on the board. On the flipside, who has a high end young C to spare? Draft for BPA, sort out the rest later. You never know if Spence becomes Subban or something. You don't draft for need just because you have a bunch of swings at potential otherwise.

Well, I am not saying the price is cheap, but Drysdale doesn't exactly project to be the next top defenseman in the league. There is a lot of talent in the league that would be made available for that pick/player and more. You don't play around with a pick like that, that lesson is learned time and time again at draft time. The Hickey picks are almost always self-defeating.

The mock drafts I did on-line suggest to me there are some pretty good defensemen available in the second round of the draft, and the Kings have three picks in the second round.
