Way too early to tell. They seem very similar.
Mailloux based on this season's progress seems to have more upside considering he has played about 60 total OHL games.

Barron has made huge strides this season and is going to be a regular top 4 from here on out.

I would have voted for too early to tell if that option had been available.
Hutson - Mailloux
Guhle - Barron
Xhekaj - Savard

In a couple seasons this is what one of the best defense cores in the league might look like.

Mailloux is on pace to score more goals this season then Barron scored in his QMJHL career. Mailloux if he figures things out could be a Brent Burns type, he's made very noticeable strides in his defensive game from early on last year to now so for me the sky is the limit cause if he keeps getting better then that's great news for us.

Barron just goes to show how many posters have such little patience, when he got sent down some jumped all over him, and yes he did struggle early on but he could have been sulking a bit as he may have thought he had a spot locked up. Either way, he needed more time in the AHL, he got it, and over time starting showing improvement until he became Laval's best D at one point.

Almost every team in the league can do something like "if our prospects all hit their ceiling" thingy like that

That looks at best like an average-to-good (10th-15th in the league) top-4 at best if looking at things realistically

Really disagree. Points aren't everything, but as a rookie on this crappy team Barron has 7 points in 20 games.

Dykhuis's best season in the NHL was 20 points. It's been a while, but I remember Dykhuis being pretty soft, and slow.

I really don't see it.

Barron has been pretty soft, he does not play the body at all. I hope he pans out though, don't get me wrong

Put me in the "too early to tell" category that is not in the poll. Mailloux looks very good and seems to have more upside, but he's still in juniors. Meanwhile, Barron is showing his stuff in the NHL.

Pretty hard to compare as one has played 100 games in the NHL but if we’re talking potential than Logan is clearly the guy

Hate this kind of questions with too many variables.
But, if both end up being decent in their zone with some offense and have the exact same numbers, I'd still take Mailloux because of the physicality and the grit

Barron also has zero defensive IQ, that might work if the offensive ceiling is high & paired with a very competent D partner.

IMO Mailloux’s ceiling is much much higher & he’s got a nasty edge to his game which Barron doesn’t

Barron likely ends up a two way #4/5 defensemen, Mailloux has higher upside and more likely to bust as well. Gotta take Mailloux for his mix of speed, grit and size that you don't see everyday.

As someone who was critical of Barron in his previous stint up with the big club, especially of his need to take extra time to do basically anything, I'm pleased to be able to recognise the night & day difference between that stint and his recent play.

He's essentially a different player. He's still got more development and growing pains ahead, but he's now looking like an exciting acquisition and not like a bust.

Until Mailloux plays pro hockey, I have to go with Barron. Mailloux definitely has a higher ceiling, but I think he also has a much lower floor.
Come on lol

Which one is better….Kotkaniemi or Connor Bedard….or do you have to wait till the other one plays NHL hockey lol

It’s predictions and forecasting based on what you are seeing now.

We’re not even sure if Barron will carve out a successful NHL career….think David Wilkie, Alex Galchenyuk, Gilbert Dionne.

Mailloux is pretty far behind Barron in development. I would have a hard time picking him.
It’s not who’s best, it’s who do you like more…..

The habs have one of the best and deepest prospect pools on defense, so the likelyhood of it becoming good is higher.

A top 6 of Guhle, Hutson, Mailloux, Barron, Xhekaj, Engstrom/Harris should be at worst an average group. At best, it could be great and one of the best in the nhl. It has eveything you would want in a d-corps: All are good to great skaters, all are capable of passing the puck well, all have offensive instincts, almost all are big dmen, several of them are physical, most of them should be at least decent at defending, and some of them have high end offensive skills.

I like Barron more for the reasons I stated. Losing so much development time I don’t think will be good for Mailloux.

Also I have a set of nhl coins from the 90s with a bunch of star players, think it was from mcdonald’s or something, and for some reason there is a David Wilkie coin in there lmao

The answer is Mailloux, but Barron turning things around is a great development. Our future D Core looks pretty set with those two, plus Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj, Harris, JK etc

Um, have you seen how dominant Mailloux has been this year? If he wasn’t playing well then I’d say this could be an argument.
