Just curious to see what the popular consensus is between these two RD's that are trending well for us. Both are great skaters with size and a good shot from the point. Both have to improve at playing D effectively in terms of NHL quality

Mailloux has the higher ceiling, but Barron's progress gives him a higher probability of being a quality NHLer.

I'll take Mailloux because if the higher ceiling. But they are basically what we have on the right side in the prospect pool, so really hoping both pan out.

I have high hopes on both of them but I do have a hard time picking one. Leaning towards Mailloux but not sure. Curious to see what others say too.

They seem to be similar type players in both style and skill level. Who's got the higher hockey IQ?

Way too early to tell. They seem very similar.
Mailloux based on this season's progress seems to have more upside considering he has played about 60 total OHL games.

Barron has made huge strides this season and is going to be a regular top 4 from here on out.

I would have voted for too early to tell if that option had been available.

I know the season has little interest for fans, but I don't get this question at all since the players are so different.

Mailloux is an offensive D with a howitzer of a shot, great skating and physicality, but sketchy defensively at times, especially when his team doesn't have the puck.

Barron is a flavourless D that has a decent shot from the point, doesn't play a particularly physical game despite being 6'2" and weighing just over 200 lbs, can skate and play decent two-way hockey. He's the type of D that has a good to great game if you don't hear his name mentioned, unless he's scoring one of the odd goals he'll known to score.

It's like asking, "Who do you prefer to win the Super Bowl -- The Alouettes or the Expos?"

I'll tell you whom I would like to see reach his ceiling though - Mailloux, because he has a ceiling that's exciting. Barron, as a solid 3rd pairing RHD that can step up to replace an injured 2nd pairing RHD without being too much out pf place, down the line, would make me happy.

Yes, way too early to tell how close to their projected ceilings they will come, but the two Ds are not even close to being the same type of player. Mailloux at 75% of his ceiling will be more of an impact D than Barron at 100% of his ceiling.

Voted Mailloux but you should have a had a third choice with tie. I think they both could end up core for us. I think Mailloux is more offensively gifted.

He is still hunched while skating and falls over to get any power on his shot while moving forward. Lots of work to do to stay a consistent top-4 dman.

Barron is quite literally better at everything other than shooting and Barron has a good shot. Mailloux is very intriguing and has some real talent but at this point in his development he is a poor defender and is well behind Barron at the same age.

I really like both prospects as Mailloux has very little CHL experience relative to his age which may explain his defensive struggles which at times can be quite ugly. Barron has been underrated on this board where expectations for him to jump into the lineup and immediately excel were entirely unrealistic.

Do I prefer a guy who's just now finally playing his first full (full?) CHL season, or a guy who has some AHL and NHL experience and is showing good things?

That's like asking do you prefer Honda Civic or an 18 wheeler... What are we trying to accomplish and compare, exactly?

Crosby disagrees.
Crosby being one of the greatest players of all time doesn't make him a great scout, though. Like it didn't make Gretzky a good coach.

Barron reminds me of Karl Dykhuis
Really disagree. Points aren't everything, but as a rookie on this crappy team Barron has 7 points in 20 games.

Dykhuis's best season in the NHL was 20 points. It's been a while, but I remember Dykhuis being pretty soft, and slow.

I really don't see it.

I’m very confident with the d corps we have…and I sincerely think we will have a Nashville Predators esque defence (in their prime) in 4 years

20 goals foe Mailloux in the CHL. This is really impressive and he is a big guy at 6 ft 3. There is a lot of tools to work on it!

Barron is an nhl player. He has poise with the puck and become better more the season goes on.

However, I think Mailloux has a higher upside
