Probably the Pens. But they always scare me. I don't know if I'm that worried about Tampa. This is their weakest team in years, IMO, and they're probably exhausted from playing as much hockey as they've played.

I guess the Pens and hope Crosby/Malkin/Letang all get brusied and battered so they can’t do much.

Don’t feel like facing that Boston goalie.

Even though we beat Tampa all season, I have no interest playing them in the first round.

Looking at the standings we can realistically play either Pitt, Tampa, Boston, or Toronto. That's a really tough group but I think we may have the best chance against Pitt and will likely be playing them as I doubt we finish ahead of Carolina.

With the history of the past. I kinda want Washington. Rangers play well against them in the past and do well against physical teams. Kreider was on that team when Stepan in that game 7. He knows them well.

Panarin vs Ovechkin
Reaves vs Wilson
Hathaway vs Goodrow

this would be a great 6 or 7 game series in my opinion. Close games in my opinion 4-3 5-4 type games

Best to not worry about it. I mean, as the rangers. As a fan, personally, I don’t care either. But I understand having the talk.

This conference is as close as I have ever seen. There's no wounded antelope trailing the herd. The factors that will determine winners will be how the games are officiated and who stays healthy. We live off our power play. If they don't call anything that could be a problem. If I had to pick a team I guess it's Pittsburgh but the last time we did really well against an opponent it was Carolina and they threw us out of the bubble like it was no big thing.

The way I see it, its either Pitt or Carolina.

Caps ain't catching us so for us, worst finish is 3rd meaning we play whoever is above us.

If we finish 2nd, its whoever is below us.

I doubt Carolina folds, so its Pitt.

I hope we get home ice, but I think we can beat them on the road as well.

At this point just give me home ice in first round and avoid Tampa and the best goalie in hockey (yes I know we’ve beat them 3 times this year)

Anybody but the Pens again or the Caps again.

Bad luck, idiot!

Why does the NHL think playing the same opponent 50 times in five seasons is what rivalries are?

I couldn't care less. It wont be Florida or Carolina.

I think we beat Boston, Tampa, Toronto and Pittsburgh. I'd prefer Washington to get Carolina but it's looking like it will be Florida.

I'll take the home-ice.

Hoping BOS is a WC. I want them to go up against CAR that would be a tough series and I would be okay against either if we make it past PIT. I also think we can matchup well with BOS, they still only have one line right? Then let FLA and TB slug it out in 7. I won't say the path is easy but I think we've gone from let's just get playoff experience to we have a chance at a run.

Picking your opponent backfires. Metro is tough as nails up and down. We have no clue how this team is going to react in the playoffs; we have no precedent to go off of, nothing that this year can build on (that will next year's dance).

Expectations should realistically be tempered. Regardless of who we match up with (and it won't be Wash) Vegas should have us as the underdog and for good reason. Home ice helps, go get it. Doesn't matter who we face, just get home ice.

I like the idea of playing Pitt in the first round because if the Rangers make it through it will be done utilizing the best parts of their game and adhering to the defensive system.

Everyone will continue to buy in and it will be a good precursor to the next rounds opponent which will be Carolina or one of the 3 mentioned.

The one thing about Pitt that scares me is out of all the teams mentioned they have the best PK. The Rangers PP is so potent and is such an important part of winning for them

The Penguins are most likely, and look like a team we can handle, but wishing for Crosby/Malkin in the playoffs could come back to bite us.

Personally I don't care who we play in the first round. To get where we want to go, we are going to need to beat these imposing teams head to head either way. I want home ice advantage as much as possible.

Play your game against whoever is in front of you, forget about better matchups and impose your game on them.
I still am not sure what our game actually is, and if it is what I think it is, does that translate to the playoff grind? Round 1? Sure. But outside of that?

What's the difference between R1 and R2? You're playing a good team either way. The Rangers play good team defense and have an excellent goalie, that translates against any opponent.
