I mean if he can't score here, he probably doesnt want to be here. Just like Necas.

At this point if I was Rantanen - I'd be pulling that eject handle. He's been nothing but frustrated since getting here. Who wants 8 years of frustration and ruined stats because you're playing with middlers instead of you know, superstars.

At this point, forget whether HE wants to be here. Do WE want him here? He’s been very lackluster overall, and certainly not worth $12.5 mill (or more).

I mean if you bring a guy in and he fails playing next to your line, is that HIS fault? He was playing next to arguably the second best center in the league. And Droiun. And getting way more ice time.

They've won what, 2 games since he showed up? While you're watching the other half of your trade tear it up in your old spot?

"f*** this" might be my take too. Especially with the cap going up and you being the hottest UFA in the league on a team known to lowball.

No way committing now benefits him in any way. He can still get 8 where ever hes traded to, or here after the deadline.

We brought him over to be productive. He has failed to do that. We’ve tried him with a variety of lines, given him ample time in special teams or with the extra attacker, and gotten very little in return. He played 25 minutes last night, which is WAY above what RBA gives most forwards. We’re doing everything to be accommodating to him, but if he’s not producing, he’s not worth it.

And you can blame the system, blame RBA, his lines mates, whoever, but that’s all negated by the fact that Guenztal absolutely tore it up for us last year. In the same system, with the same linemates, with less ice time.

Well then we lost a year of Nachos, maybe more, for nothing, in a time where we are starving for production and forwards. Oh and a 2nd too. Winning.

Yeah, it’s looking that way. But if he’s looking for $12+ and not producing like a $12+, then there’s no way we should entertain the idea of signing him, regardless of what it took to trade for him. Retain half his remaining salary, flip him at the deadline, try and recover something from this mess.

Probably doesn't help that he's being asked to join a team that has struggled to have any kind of identity this year other than inconsistency. Robinson has probably been the most steady/consistent performer along with maybe, Chatty?

This situation reminds me of going to a start up from a well established company. It can be a fun ride but it's not for everyone and typically, requires a lot of hard work and flexibility before the payoff arrives. I am not saying the Canes org is a start up but the team's construction this season feels chaotically like it and next season's could be, too, for a bit. His former linemates aren't going anywhere.

He’s gonna be taking a big gamble if he turns down over 100 million and they keep him for the rest of the season and he shows he can’t produce like he did in Colorado. I’m sure they’ll be a team willing to pay him way too much in free agency but maybe teams will be weary and the offers won’t be as good

Nah, even if we keep him and he continues to struggle here, teams aren’t going to be put off by that. They’re going to chalk it up to RBA/Carolina nullifying his offensive instincts and throw oodles of money at him.

You’re probably right there’s desperate teams like Chicago who need to start winning. I’d be weary though if this continues and a team pays him 14 minimum on a 7 year deal. Although he could show up come playoffs like he normally does and his value will only go up. I think they keep him and ride it out imo

Yeah, I'm willing to give it more time before we cut bait, but Guentzel coming in and immediately finding chemistry with Aho and decisively proving he was *not* merely a passenger to Crosby is a very stark contrast.

Yea between the shock of the trade, illness, 4N break, and the team generally playing like shit the past few weeks it's hard to get a good assessment on him. Has ANYONE played well recently?

Rantanen wasn’t having the best season regardless of production. His effort level has been questioned at times amongst fans. He would get put on the second line to try to drive offense from there, wouldn’t work very well.

My only real issue with him so far is there are times where he can drive the net or shoot and he’s pulling up and forcing the same bad passes his linemates are forcing to him. I believe that article about his fancy stats being great so far - though I’d be surprised if last nights looked good. Or I should say if last nights stats looked good I feel like I’ve got further proof of advanced stats not being very advanced.
