Rangers selects a lot of big and tall players who know how to fight (Matt Rempe 6'8'', Will Cuylle 6'3'', Dylan Roebroeck 6'7'').
They've been using later round draft picks the last 3/4/5 years for larger framed players who can skate a lot. Rempe was a bit of a baby giraffe when the Rangers drafted him. He still has some balance issues but he does have speed and a decent amount of agility. But anyway it's a bit of a different drafting philosophy. I don't think they're drafting later with the idea they're going to get a home run skill type of player. It's more about guys who can fit into bottom line and bottom pairing roles and that's where the size and skating component comes. Most of these guys also bring a physical component though not all them are guys who drop the gloves. Partly this strategy I think is to have a ready supply of bottom line players that you don't overpay for them and that will kick more cap $'s to the top of the lineup.
Cuylle's got a big, thick body, very strong. He chipped in well enough on the Rangers 3rd line last year and he's got a very good two way game. Roobroeck's game took off in the second half for Oshawa last year. He's not as fast as Rempe or 6'7 Adam Edstrom (who is also a really smooth skater) but he's a more balanced skater.
In this June's draft a lot of teams went for bigger skaters.
