Dahlin, it’ll all be fine

Just curious- think it could be kinda fun if people don’t take it personally. Let people have their opinions, let’s not turn this into a back-and-forth battle. So, if you were a super talented NHLer and got either a 5 or 10 nmc list, who’d be on it for this season?

For me:

5) Montreal. Media, pressure.
4) Toronto. Same as above.
3) Calgary. Directionless, disorganized.
2) Philadelphia. Same as above.
1) Winnipeg. Same as above.

I'll give a solid 10... Might hurt some feelin's, but it's all based on my personality and penchant toward hating the media.

1. Toronto - I don't want to be anywhere near that level of media attention.
2. Montreal - I speak some French, but damn, that media x2, no thanks, at least its in two languages to be "quaint"
3. Edmonton - See Toronto, only lesser
4. Vancouver - See above, and I like the Canucks... but no.
5. Dallas - I've been there. No thanks.
6. Florida - I'm not a big fan of any part of Florida, but the Miami Suburbs are a "no thanks" from me. money or not.
7. Winnipeg - It's just not terribly appealing of a place to live for me. No mountains, no salt water, etc.
8. New York Rangers - Too urban for my taste.
9. Columbus - See Winnipeg, but with better weather
10. Washington - I despise politics. This is a bad place for me to even visit.

Las Vegas
Tampa Bay
Florida
Dallas
Arizona
...
Nashville
St. Louis
Columbus
Carolina
Winnipeg

Winnipeg - lived in Regina for a few years, very cold
Edmonton - Winters suck here
Calgary - same as Edmonton and Winnipeg
Toronto - don't see what the fuss is all about
Ottawa - toss up between that and Montreal

As for the media pressure in Montreal, give some interviews in broken French and everyone will love you for the effort

Winnipeg, Edmonton, Columbus, Carolina, Buffalo, Philly, Pittsburgh, St Louis, Minnesota, Detroit.

The above in my current job. Just wouldn’t want to live in any of those cities. If I was actually playing in the NHL, my NMC would be way more focused on quality of team vs the city. Every place has nice neighbourhoods to live in.

Shocked to see New York and Vancouver there if I’m being completed honest

Am I a generational player, average player, bad player or anchor of a contract player?

I would love to be an integral part of a core that brings a cup home to Toronto/Edmonton and if I fail to do so as a generational talent, I can get by. Anything other than generational or close to it? Both teams are on my No Trade list.

As an average player that is paid within my skill set, here’s my list:

No go:

1. Winnipeg
2. Arizona
3. Chicago
4. Seattle
5. Montreal

Preferred destinations:

1. Florida
2. Tampa
3. Vegas
4. Dallas
5. Nashville

Toronto...culture of losing
California teams(all)...bad state government
New York teams(all)...bad state government
Washington. DC...bad local government, too political
Chicago...bad local government
Boston...the rest of New England refers to MA as massholes...for deservedly good reasons.

hmm....

what team would i be on to begin with in this scenario?

what if one of my clause teams is the one i'm already on?

*list in progress

1. Arizona - If they eventually move to a viable market, maybe they come off the list. But for now, they’re #1.
2. Calgary - Cold, don’t like the direction of the team…at least they won’t have the oldest building in the league somewhat soon?
3. Toronto - I want no part of that media and I don’t think a team with that sort of pressure can have the patience and guts to pull off the right moves to put together a Cup winner. All of the attention is a recipe for overlaying players as well, making it all the harder to put together a balanced Cup contending team.
4. Montreal - See Toronto.
5. Vancouver - Directionless, expensive…would consider it if the team’s future looked better.
6. Ottawa - I could be talked into it if the new owners show they’d consistently spend to the Cap as I like a lot of what they’ve built but I don’t think Dorian’s a good GM and the pressure is still high there.
7. Winnipeg - Don’t like their future and it’s cold.
8. Edmonton - Tempting with McDavid but no. Too cold and I think they’re currently too top heavy to put together a Cup team and they seem to be consistently unable to acquire a legit #1 d-man (unless of course I am that #1 d-man they’ve been missing for years, then I’d sign there as that last piece of the puzzle and hoist the Cup while trying to not die of hypothermia).
9. Philadelphia - I want absolutely nothing to do with Torts. And I think they’re going to be bad for quite a while. Solid prospects but it’ll take years for them to be solid contributors.
10. Columbus - I want nothing to do with Babcock. Fantilli is nice but they’re still a long ways away from being a Cup contender.

Since your a generational poster (most of the time) we’ll assume you’re a generational game breaker player.

1. Toronto
2. Winnipeg (I was born here, lived here for 12 years before moving to Vancouver, it’s an absolute gong show)
3. Edmonton
4. New Jersey
5. Arizona
6. Buffalo
7. New York (too expensive)
8. LA (California sucks)
9. SJ (see above)
10. Anaheim (see above)

1. Toronto - "Center of the Hockey Universe" narrative is just pressure
2. Edmonton - no thanks to those winters
3. Calgary - same as Edmonton, and seems like they're stuck in the mushy middle
4. Arizona - if I'm in my prime now, it'll be too long until they're good
5. Columbus - they just seem to be middling (even though they are building, there's too many inefficient players and it'll be awhile until they're good)
6. Vegas - not a fan of how they treat their players like they're disposable -- win them a Cup, but if they see their next favorite shiny new toy they'll dump them, just like they did with Fleury and Reilly Smith more recently
