Which Two Player Fought Each Other The Most Times?

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

That's awesome. I was just thinking that we could find the answer at dropyourgloves.com but I didn't imagine they'd have already compiled it for us.

1 Tie Domi vs. Rob Ray 15
2 Stu Grimson vs. Bob Probert 14
3 Gord Donnelly vs. Jay Miller 13
4 John Kordic vs. Jay Miller 12
5 Bob McGill vs. Al Secord 11

Is this for modern times? I've heard that in the original six era, when teams played each other all the time, players used to get into fights with the same person frequently. An example I've heard of is John Ferguson (Montreal) and Eddie Shack (Toronto).

You would think with the massive penalty minute numbers he put up that Dave "The Hammer" Shultz would be up there. I think that the numbers at DYG are based on video's; so a guy like John Ferguson gets shortchanged. I'm not sure if Shack fought Ferguson as much as Orland Kurtenbach did or Ted Green for that matter.

The data the site has gets less and less complete the further back you go, so it's possible that someone in the O6 era had more. But I doubt it. Just going by the yearly leaders in PMs, the top guys in the 60s usually had less than half the PMs that the leaders in the 70s, 80s and early 90s did. http://www.hockey-reference.com/leaders/pen_min_yearly.html

On Schultz's fight card they have him down for 170 career fights, with the most against one player being 9 against Garry Howatt. I'm not sure how complete that is for his career. Those 170 fights would only account for 850 of his 2294 career PMs (37%). Of course, when you think of how many misconducts he racked up (10 minutes each) it's probably close to accurate.

Kordic/Miller must have been the most one-sided of these. Kordic always battered Miller but could never hurt him. He must of literally had a cement head because no matter how hard Kordic hit him, Miller was still smiling at him after the fight.

Cashman and Schoenfeld not on there?

Surprisingly,Schoenfeld had 20 fights his first 2 years and then 14 over the remaining 10 years. Only fought Cashman once which I remember clearly,a Tuesday night I think.
