Average NHL fan today for sure the contemporary players, but overall Howe, Jágr, Lemieux are more famous. Although I suppose Ovechkin has become more notorious of late.

This sounds like pure nostalgia. The NHL has a much much bigger audience than before

There's also the technology/internet effect. People were not able to surf on the internet while being on the bus, metro, work, home, etc.

This feels more like a poll to generate posters approximate age. Sly way to find out HF demographics :naughty:

The poll question is "which trio is more well known/popular to the average fan" so I see it as everyone and not just HF where we are obviously bigger hockey fans than the average person

A lot of non-hockey fans watched certain players at the Olympics, the NHL has never had a global appeal and certainly doesn't now.

Ok but the number of human beings who watch hockey games or highlights is much much bigger today than it was just 30 years ago. There's a ton of reasons but just demographics and technology should be enough for you to realize it.

Not sure, in the 1990s it wasn't that rare to have NHL games and weekly magazines in public TV at a time when there were only a couple of channels available for anyone to watch. Nowadays it's all about algorithms, having tons of content doesn't mean you'll ever encounter any of it.

Not sure? lol ok, I don't know what kind of rock you've been living under

You realize we're not talking about die hard fans here?

Let's take my best friend for example. Lebanese, born here (I wasn't even born here). He doesn't give a crap about hockey event though I brought him many times to sports bar to eat and drink.

He knows who Lemieux is because he heard about him in the QC province but Gordie Howe? lol no chance, same with Jagr. Crosby, Ovechkin and McDavid? Yes he knows them.
