This has nothing to do of how good the players are. This is simply which trio is more well known/popular to the average fan.
More fans woukd know about the younger players because that group would include both the old fans who know the old players and the young fans. The young fans are less likely to know both groups.,This has nothing to do of how good the players are. This is simply which trio is more well known/popular to the average fan.
A casual sports fan has absolutely no clue about Howe, Lemieux etc.
It’s like myself and baseball. I know Babe Ruth but so do other casual fans with Gretzky, but I wouldn’t be able to name any other baseball greats of the past.
Never heard of them. Think you’re overestimating the knowledge of a casual. Ovechkin Crosby mcdavid by far. Mostly due to the brilliant marketing of Ovechkin Crosby. My sisters and girlfriend who like hockey know of these three but I’d bet my house 3/4 wouldn’t recognize the other namesIt's probably close to even.
Hockey fans in general would likely know both the current stars and the past stars.
Ty Cobb?
Mickey Mantle?
I'm sure you know more than you think.
Ya they’re too young to know.Never heard of them. Think you’re overestimating the knowledge of a casual. Ovechkin Crosby mcdavid by far. Mostly due to the brilliant marketing of Ovechkin Crosby. well exactly. You need to put in some effort to learn about/ retain information from the past unless it’s a Gretzky or something.Ya they’re too young to know.
I would say also Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, Lou Gehrig, Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds etc. are far, far more famous than Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts, Ronald Acuña or whomever the current three best are. Ohtani is the only current player that might find himself in that category.A casual sports fan has absolutely no clue about Howe, Lemieux etc.

I’ve heard the name, but have no clue what he’s done and whenNot even Barry Bonds?
Kind of feels like Howe should be swapped for Gretzky.
Lemieux, Jagr, and Gretzky
