You're moving the goal posts, your original claim was that the prestige of the U20s is higher, not that they more accurately live up to their name.

I would argue that the the original claim is true because of the second one...

And you would be wrong.

Do the Asian Championships also have more prestige than the World championships simply because they live up to their name? Let's be serious.

But an Asian championship is not a world championship. ;)

I see more importance, thus prestige, in a tournament that determines who has the best U20 players than one that essentially arbitrarily picks team for each country. The winning country of the WHC really can't make any such greater claim as being the best.

Guess Canada must really suck since their U20 players haven't won a thing in five years.

Players like Tavares, Duchene, MacKinnon, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins. All crap... compared to Matt Donovan and John Ramage.

I think the WJC can be ranked up alongside the SC Playoffs in Canada. The fact that TSN was getting decent ratings for games beginning at 4am (i.e. Ufa) says a lot about how passionate Canadians have become about this tournament. It's has become a national holiday tradition and I'd say it creates just as much buzz as the Stanley Cup Final does (only when there's no Canadian team playing).

I get the feeling that in Canada, best on best trumps all e.g.

Olympics
World Cup

(large gap)

IIHF U-20
IIHF WC

(large gap)

IIHF U-18, Ivan Hlinka, Spengler Cup, etc.

ya thats accurate...but its tough for me personally to see the young kids in the juniors have their hearts broken after trying so hard....that hurts man.....they deserve better but what can you do...sometimes you just get beat...that junior hockey...their just kids...momentum swings wildy, and most of the time our best are good enough for the NHL where other teams are not. way she goes.
