TBH, that's an inherently cheesy concept.

The Canes have enough of a brand identity at this point that you don't need to slap a hockey stick on the primary logo for people to know it's a hockey team. The primary element has to be a hurricane or a hurricane related thing, not a generic piece of hockey equipment.

With the current logos the primary focuses are a hurricane and a pair of hurricane flags. Flown off of the hockey stick since they need a pole regardless, but the focus is very clearly the hurricane flags. Because they're not the Carolina Hockey Sticks.

If you want to change the logo, you need a logo that represents either a hurricane or something hurricane related better than our current set. Nothing I've seen gets there. Some have come close, and might have been better on day 1, but aren't anywhere close to good enough to override 25 years or so of brand identity.

You missed the main point of my post, which was IF they want to go with a letter (I hope they would do better), an H might be preferable to a C given there are already two teams that wear a C as their primary logo (I know Montreal's also has an H on it, but the C is much more prominent).

I'm not talking about using the H, I'm talking about your idea to make the H out of hockey sticks.

I know I've come up with a few concepts in the past, but really I do struggle with coming up with a better logo for the Hurricanes than what we have right now. Any stylized interpretation of a storm itself always looks half baked and interior to the main logo we already have. The two flag logo, it's perfect. The Stormy logo (with the addition of pants) is a great throwback look that ties with the collegiate history of the area, and I've come around to realizing that the C with 2 flags we already have as part of the wordmark works extremely well also.

If anything I might go MLB treatment with it and promote that C to the main logo while keeping the rest of the brand (jersey logos and everything) intact because it's so simple and yet unmistakeably Canes. We should be selling baseball hats with that logo on it from The Eye, and it would fly off the shelves because it's just a natural fit for it. I'm even curious to see what it would look like as the main crest for a 3rd jersey.

I feel like we have stumbled into a really strong brand right now and none of the concepts they've shown is nor what I've seen online improves upon it.

That's not a rejected 3rd jersey, that's one of the initial prototypes we had for the branding and jerseys of the organization before they settled on what they did.
that makes more sense, seems like too far of a departure from their primary branding to be considered for a 3rd

Are the Canes doing a rebranding this summer? They did put out some “ugly” concept jerseys a bit ago.

At this time I'm ready for the double flags to be the permanent logo. It is, in my opinion, the best logo they've ever trotted out. I'd like to see the road jerseys get the double flags too.
I'm very much on team 'just go with the classics'. Our original jerseys were the best we've ever had. They sold like nuts when they brought them back last year. Just go to that full time. Keep the blacks as thirds, Dundon explicitly likes to have different concepts with each jersey to sell different things to people who like different things, but c'mon. Wear the jerseys that we won a cup in and most people *still* think of first when they hear the words "Carolina Hurricanes Jersey".

I completely agree. If they want to do little tweaks or updates fine but they’ve never topped the original- that look or something close to it just is what they are supposed to look like, at least in my head

So per Icethetics there is a mystery 3rd team set to have a refresh/rebrand next year along with LA and Anaheim.

I don't think it's us, but we are on the radar for it, and if so it would center around the throwback jersey from 2022-23. I have heard there is something coming down the pipeline but needed to be pushed out a couple years because of the Fanatics takeover, so there's a chance it got pushed up to now.

Last year, there were a lot of hints from Mike Forman and crew that there might be a change (and it was implied that it would be the heritage jersey) but they couldn't do it in the last year of Adidas. Per Icethetics, Fanatics discouraged teams from doing rebrands but didn't tell them no, and since they're using the same facilities as Adidas at least at first, that jersey is one that they already have patterns and materials for. I wouldn't be shocked if it still happens.

I sure hope so. I don’t dislike what they’ve got now except for that diagonal away jersey, but I love the original kits. If we got a red an a white of those it’d be a win win

I wouldn't expect anything other than the red changing- Dundon has explicitly said he likes doing different concepts with different jerseys to sell to different people. His view is that if the white jersey offers the same logo and template as the black or red, nobody would buy the white, and when you have a home and a third, you can use entirely different concepts, not just different colors. Throw in the Whalers jerseys too, to sell to an entirely different audience.

I don't think we'll ever have the traditional set of similar jerseys ever again. Ya just gotta get used to it.
