Based on this tournament.

Raised:

Brady Tkachuk - The premier power forward in the game, now everyone knows.
Mitch Marner - A very big game at a big time. That’s big for his narrative.
Jordan Binnington - He may let in the odd softie, but he’s Mr. Clutch for the rest of his life.
Zack Werenski - Not a lot of people watch Columbus. But they should to see him play.

Hurt:

Auston Matthews - I thought he coasted through the first 3 games, and while he got some chances tonight when he got paired with Brady, he once again couldn’t score in the big moment.
Jack Hughes - Looked like a junior player out there.
Devon Toews - He was okay with Makar, bad without. May have played himself off the Olympic team.
Mark Stone - Still a great NHLer, but couldn’t keep up with the pace of best on best.
Adam Fox - He’s good?
Good list. I think Harley and Slavin did much to help their reputations. I think Brad Marchand looked old. Where was Jack Hughes?

These are relative to my expectations - so there are some guys like Werenski who raised their stock but I already him this high.

Beating my expectations:

Jaccob Slavin
- I already thought he was the best defensive D in the game but the difference he could make out there was astonishing.
Brock Faber - He's already one of the very very best defensive D in the league.
Brady Tkachuk - So many elite players out there and he was driving play against them.
Mikael Granlund - Still scoring hero type goals.
Jake Guentzel - Not the most distinguished skillset but he still scores like it's a regular season game.
Sam Bennett - I don't even think he's very good. But the clutch is real.
Travis Sanheim - I had marked as a bit of a lightweight D, a very good puckmover. But he's gotten very sturdy and good defensively.
Jordan Binnington - Kind of like Bennett, clutch is clutch. I suppose Team Canada brass deserve credit for going with clutch players and it worked.

Falling below my expectations:

Jack Hughes - He was the useless perimeter guy that people complain Marner is.
Adam Fox - I didn't think he was terrible just a bit outclassed.
Elias Pettersson - I suppose I thought there was a chance he'd wake up.
Auston Matthews - Better in the big game, but he's supposed to be good enough to show up throughout and he just looked very ordinary compared to the other superstars.
Mikko Rantanen - Didn't look like one of Finland's best players.

Matthew’s has been hurt all year and he was fine this tournament. He actually scared the hell out of me this game.

Stock up

1. Jordan Binnington - Don’t how he looks on the Blues. He’s earned his spot on the Olympics regardless and you can make his net to lose. He’s clutch and that’s what you want from any goalie.

2. Mitch Marner - Probably won’t last long due to the team he plays for but he was great. Like Binnington, he’s earn his spot for next year.

3. Thomas Harley - He was great for somebody that hasn’t practiced much with the team. I have no issue sending him to Itatly.

4. Brady Tkachuk - Shame on Ottawa for not giving this guy playoff hockey. He was a f***ing monster. I’m actually nervous now of a potential Ottawa Toronto playoff series this year.

5. Drew Doughty - I admit I ate crow on this. I thought he was brilliant and showed why he’s a hall of famer defenceman.

6. Jaccob Slavin - I think we all knew he was good but never really get see much of him for playing in a smaller market. Seeing him on the big stage made me realize how lucky Carolina is to have this guy.

Stock down

1. Mark Stone - This guy has been a lock on team Canada projections for years as a player you must have. I can do without him. Too slow and too many plays die on his stick.

2. Devon Toews - Not particular bad but more so that’s it? Like Stone he was always a lock but he looked real replaceable out there.

3. Adam Fox - For a guy that’s constantly regarded as one of the best in the NHL defenceman, he’s trending towards being overrated now. I admittedly don’t watch much of the Rangers so maybe it’s been going on for a while.

4. Jack Hughes - Some growing might be needed here for playoff type hockey. I’d be nervous if I was Devils fan.

5. Seth Jarvis - He was one of those players on an Olympic try out. I don’t think he passed the test and bunch of other players should get other looks over him.

Most of the other players to me came as advertised. I thought Marchand looked old but I was still impressed he has the hustle and heart still.

Werenski was arguably the worst defensive defenseman for the US. Turnovers, poor breakouts. It’s a matter of if your prefer primary and secondary assists or burying your team in your own end. Certainly hurt any Norris talk he might’ve had pre-tournament for those that don’t regularly watch him play.

Slavin earned himself a bunch of Norris votes in games that technically don't count towards voting.
Which is incredibly sad as this is who he is every night for Carolina. Absolute elite all-around D, far superior defensively than the perennial Norris favourites like Hughes/Fox/etc. Unfortunately the lazy media give that award to the likes of Erik Karlsson.

What are you talking about? He was one of the best players in the whole tournament and especially in the final game.

He had a positive impact both offensively and defensively, which most of the US team couldn't say.

Did you even watch the games? Matthews didn't even play in all of the first 3 games. He was held out of the third game due to injury. The final game was his third game of the tournament. How's he coasting in games he didn't even play?
