I can’t explain it any better than you just did.

There are 32 spots for first line centers in the league. If I were to rank all centers, 1-32 would be 1C caliber, 33-64 would be 2C caliber, etc.
So every team in the league has a #1 C?

No. The 32 best centers in the league are 1Cs. They would all be first line centers if talent was equally distributed.

The Coyotes don’t have a center worthy of 1C or even a 2C ranking.

The Oilers have two centers worthy of a 1C ranking.

1C definition should be - capable of being a top line center in the NHL.

I feel like Hintz is a standout here. Only guy whose ability to be 1C cannot be questioned if you watch the games. Then Larkin, Thomas and Pettersson but they are more up-and-down guys

Explain it for a third time and more slower. He'll eventually get it.

Then your definition on number one centers is different then mine. A 1 C should be good enough to be able to be played in all situations or score a literal buttload of goals or assists to offset that.

Does that make Jack Hughes not a number 1C? he doesn't fit your criteria.

He isn't and I don't think many think that at the moment. He's still developing and growing so in the future there probably is a chance but not right now.

All of them would be Columbus' #1 so then quick and dirty vote for all of them.
If that's how you define #1C, go for it.

The question wording is:

Which are these guys are true #1C quality players?

My interpretation is "on s theoretical average team, is this guy a #1C quality?"

In Columbus that would be a yes but for situation reasons. Opposite problem in Edmonton. I think EP is a top 32 C with upside so for me, he's a #1C on most teams.

How is this not a 1C according to most ppl here? The last 2 seasons played under a defense 1st coach. Now they are allowed to attack more.

Great example of what I wanted to see with this poll - value in our minds vs actual production. Thanks jonlin!

More like ppl dont follow Dallas games at all and dont even know the player IMO. It`s even more impressive that a player, who plays for a defensive team with 16min/gp actually is only 2p below PPG for the last 3 seasons while playing all situations. Most of the other players named, play in another system with worse stats. 80% of them dont even PK and loggs more minutes.

One of the better 2-way players in the game as well. Great defensively. No clue how he isn't a unanimous 1C on here. If he's not a 1C, then there aren't a lot of 1C's in the NHL.

If he scores moving forward at the pace he did last season he would be. He might not be a faceoff guy or elite in his own zone, but his possession and puck retrieval ability mitigates that with his scoring.

Hischier moves up like 10+ spots if we do this ranking as of today.

Matt Duchene is on the poll list, but he's not a center fwiw.

I mean, Duchene is a Center, and he's been a top scorer in the league there. But i think most people have settled on the idea that he's probably better as a winger, where he's less of a liability defensively.

Since there was talk about Selke type players earlier.

Leading Selke candidates-ESPN
Leader: Patrice Bergeron, Boston Bruins
Finalists: Nico Hischier, New Jersey Devils; Mark Stone, Vegas Golden Knights

Hischier was the only other players to receive multiple first-place votes. Other players that made our panelists' Selke ballots were Jordan Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes, Phillip Danault of the Los Angeles Kings and Roope Hintz of the Dallas Stars.

Seems someone is missing on that list... ehh Espn is probably biased anyway.
