So

Kempe Kopitar Byfield
Fiala PLD Kaliyev
Moore Danault Arvidsson
Lewis Lizzotte Grundstrom
JAD Fagemo

Anderson Doughty
Gavrikov Roy
Englund/Bjornfoot Clarke
Spence

Goaltenders

Besides the League worst Goaltending, this looks like a very solid lineup. Writing it out makes sense Without the glut of players we had.

Maybe we can actually be something more than a 1st round exit

has anyone on the Kings confirmed that Kaliyev will most likely be slotted on the 2nd line rather than being our 13th forward?

Everyone's penciling Kaliyev on the 2nd line, but what has changed?

With a 21 man roster the other options would be Lewis or Fagemo. Kaliyev probably the better fit. Guys are going to get a shot this year due to the cap.

It didn't just happen this season, it happened the previous season as well. Two playoffs in a row.

But a lot of that has to do with who he was playing; McDavid.

TMac FINALLY figured out it was better to matchup Danault against the Oilers top line, but it was too late.
The problem was Draisaitl. Draisaitl is no burner, yet he absolutely dominated him. Anze is just spent at year's end. Hopefully Dubois takes a good 3 minutes off of Kopitar's load on a nightly basis.

That's been an issue going all the way to the Vegas series.

Which is why it was baffling when manage primarily pursued a winger the following offseason.

This… this is why I when I see the lineup with all 3 centers I think how the VGK managed their lines and all of them average around 16-17min of TOI… hopefully Todd learned something but I doubt it

This is it but I see Clarke in the AHL for at least half the season and Spence with Englund.

Also, don't be surprised if they move Lewis of Grunny up to play in Kayilev's spot.

In addition, don't be surprised if Kayilev struggles he goes to Ontario, since he is the only forward besides QB who can go to Ontario without waivers. Fagemo will get games.

"Lewis up to play in Kaliyev's spot" ..... Oh god..... Please Todd no. You're definitely right, it could happen. But damn that would be a mistake. In my opinion you gotta give Kaliyev minimum 20 games in a top 9 role to start the season - see if he gets settled in and starts sniping. Hopefully TMac is ready to commit to that.

Arty could be GOOD good.

Vilardi at wing is hampering him. He'd be much better at center but now we got that 70 point center that will really improve the team. Losing vilardi bad, gaining dubois good.

I went through the Kings trades this year and couldn't find a 70 point center.
Did i miss something?

We clearly can't talk about PLD who barely cracked the 60 point 3 times in his 7 year career.
In our system i would be extremely happy if he scores 50 points which of course would make me hate him instantly because he asked for a salary of a 80+ point center

Depends on if Kopitar loses a step (no sign of that happening yet), but that new top 9 looks crazy good.
Can we define crazy good?

Kopitar is being dominated by opponent top guys, PLD has also proven that he has not what it takes effort and skill related and Danauld came down to his normal after the first season of over archiving.

This team can't compete against Edmonton, Vegas and Seattle just got stronger.
We might be in a position where we struggle for a wild card spot.

And all that for just a couple of 1st rounders and highly talented youngsters in return.
For any reason that doesn't excite me

My question is why the Kings signed Lewis to do what exactly coach cause he's not an NHL player anymore for the Love of Pete! He wasn't much good in a Kings jersey and with age he gets better? C'mon man get F...ing real! Blake really has his Ass up his Butt! And those(UFA) signings were for the Majority signings to bolster the Ontario Reign cause they are f***ing nothing for the Kings

He's a defense first fourth liner and PKer that fits the scrawny budget. It's actually a really easy move to understand

Byfield-Kopitar-Kempe
Fiala-PLD-Lewis
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
Grundstrom-Lizotte-Kayilev/Fagemo
JAD

Anderson-Doughty
Gavrikov-Roy
Englund-Spence
Bjornfot

This is how I see it playing out.

Lewis played with PLD in Winnipeg and you can't two skilled players on either side - need some jam or something different on one side.

Also, Spence has spent parts of two full seasons with Ontario also played parts of those two seasons in LA. Now he is going to be passed over from Clarke, who is built like a 12 year old boy in an organization that loves to develop players in the AHL.

All signs are Clarke starting and at least spending a lot of time in Ontario.

If he breaks out, then great, Kings have some trade chips in Spence, Bjornfot, Lizotte, Grundstrom, etc. I assume the Kings will re-sign Roy, so breaking in on the ride side is going to be tough until Doughty's deal expires in four more seasons.

Doughty, Roy, Spence - that's already three RHD. If the Kings plan to let Roy walk and Clarke take that spot, the Kings need to add about two more Englund types, because that's three puck movers who need some protection.

On the LHD side, Anderson is here for awhile, Gavrikov for two more seasons, Englund for two more seasons.

Depends how good Lewis is. I wonder how much this has to do with the fourth line got bent over during the Oilers series

I may have some bias but I'd rather give the 4th line RWing spot to a youngster rather than someone Over-The-Hill unless Blake is going to have Lewis play centre cause doesn't have a Rshooting,Right face-off man? Lewis would be a good 15th Forward and first man up the rotation I guess

CAP Compliant 23-24 roster. Can only fit in 21. Bjornfot contract probably higher than 800K, placeholder for now.

You think that soft roster is getting by Edmoton and Vegas? Jesus. I am praying for a depth signing and Englund full time. Literally praying for the skilled players.

That's what i'm saying, so whoever that paints a better roster in 2023 vs 2022 is ignoring important facts

One of them is that Kaliyev isn't going from 9mins every other game to suddenly penciled in at #2 (unless upper management orders it) especially since Lewis the veteran is around and especially since it's stupid to even assume that Arvidsson will be slotted on the 3rd line.

The incompetence of our current staff would suggest that they probably don't even know the difference between PLD & DANO, they're both French Canadian centers, that's more than enough to confuse everyone

wait and see, and hope for the best

It’s becoming a trope to hear the koolaid drinkers spout that the Kings improved after Rob Blake’s transaction du jour. When it comes time to account for results, expectations are squashed and the party line of eternal purple hopium gets trotted out. It’s as predictable as the yearly seasons, to the point where you can set your watch to the datetime.

Grundstrom and Liz would free up 3mil in cap space. They have no purpose on this roster - ie they are no more useful than Durzi or Walker were. They went with spare parts 4th line which got pushed in during the playoffs - pathetically. The right thing to do if you're serious is to dump those guys and sign Bjugstad for 2 mil (like AZ did) and some serviceable hitting specialist for 1m to play w Lewis and make it a heavier checking line... or if you want to go with spare parts there til the deadline, you have 3 mil for a goalie or a better 3LD than the pylon Englund.

I actually like the Kings moving these young centers a quick look at C.
Then when its obvious they are not ready for that much responsibility , move them to wing.
After they break out you move them to C when one is injured, in poor form or you have an easy matchup.
It's risky though because if a key player is injured a youngster will suddenly be thrust into more minutes and expected to fill some big shoes.

Agreed in a way. I think Lizotte is a bridge for Turcotte and or Helenius. More so Turcotte.

Ideally, next season the 4th line should be a physical player-Turcotte-Fagemo. I would love Lemeiux or a player like him in that spot.
