Which King team is more beloved, 2012 or 2014?

The thing about both Stanley Cup teams, is that I don't think we will ever see another team perform like the 2012 and 2014 teams. 2012 where they just steamrolled everyone in their path, going up 3-0 in every single series against the #1, 2, and 3 seeds was amazing. And the 2014 team going down 3-0 in the 1st round and then coming back and winning game 7, then go another 2 series going to game 7s as well. It was unlike anything that I have ever seen before.

I'm going to go with 2014, by a very slim margin, based solely on the fact that we went to 3 straight game 7s and won every single game. I've never seen a team go through so much adversity and come out on top every single time.

A couple of funny thoughts. First, during last season there was a thread started on the main board about the league's big 3 teams and there was a particular poster who argued the Kings shouldn't be included because they hadn't won a division title as part of their 2 (soon to be 3) year run of Cup and WCF at the time. It was a dumb argument then and it's even dumber now that the Kings won again and were 3rd in the Pacific.

I remember after the Game 6 loss vs. Chicago that Stoll basically laughed it off and said something like of course we're going to have to win this in 7 like the others. That they could lose a clincher in the last few minutes like that and still have that positive attitude to win Game 7 is what really makes this team special.

I'll say the 2012 Kings...but only because of the prediction I made at my kettle when TM was fired (THE CUP IS OURS!!!!)... The Sharks fan I said that to looked at me like I had a screw loose and even volunteered $50 towards one of my 2012 season kettles if we won the Cup... The best thing was that he paid up with the donation...

Too bad I didn't make another bold statement at my kettle last season...:rant:

For me is really not even a question. 2012 was what I had waited for my entire life. It's was like winning the lottery. Before I could even come down off that buzz jazz hands and the gang delivered again. I'm actually still to this moment trying to process the whole thing.

2012

I will never forget the feeling I had... it was a stunned silence in my living room, watching and unable to comprehend what had just happened.

Then I jumped up and starting runnign aroud the house screaming and yelling, my wife trying to calm me down for 15 minutes.

I'm pretty sure I cried. I cant remember. She says I did.

For me I say you never forget your first love.

was thinkign the same thing but I am aslo thinking "Gold Jacket green Jacket who gives a ****"

I will say winning in double OT was a lot more fun than having it in the bag after 1 period

I love Gabby more than Penns.

Amen. Gabby was so clutch for us last year. Penner could be such a beast, but he is too inconsistent throughout the year. Dwight King is our new Penner anyways.

How about the team speed, guys? One of the big knocks on us was always how we were a terrible matchup for the faster teams. Now, all of a sudden we have great team speed with Gabby, Pearson, Toffoli (who many people said couldn't skate) and Carter, who has excellent top end speed.

And don't forget about Voynov, who won the fastest skater in the AHL. I think he slacked on his training or put in too many minutes last year. I hope he has a bounce back season.

Can you imagine if Brown/Richards/Voynov play to their potential? Holy cow...is it possible to have a better team than last year? Lots to look forward to.

2012 was great. I remember mid way through the season when the kings were really struggling to win and score. I was talking with my dad (Big Kings fan also) and he said "Wouldn't that be awesome if the Kings could be one of those teams that would struggle all season, barely making the playoffs. Then come playoff time they go on a run and win the cup."

I looked at him and said "yeah, right..." I'm of course thinking this team isn't going to win anything.

He kinda responds with a "yeah, it will never happen, but it would awesome if it did."

I really can't choose between the teams. This year beating 3 of the top teams in the NHL all in road game 7's and winning the cup in OT was incredible. The 3-0 comeback against a rival. Beating the Ducks. Getting revenge on the Blackhawks.

2012 beating the 3 top seeds. Going up 3-0 in every series. The powerplay. Everything just seemed to fall into place that year.

Gaborik, Carter..

Toffoli and Person, King and Nolan..

So many great story lines from 2012 and 2014. I love them both equally. I can say this. Both runs probably did a number on my heart and knocked 10 years off my life, and it was worth every second!

One thing I truly believe is that there's no way our guys pull off 2014 without the experience of 2012 in their back pockets. 2012 gave these guys belief they could do anything, and then they went out and did it in 2014.

Exactly! A winning team does not get built overnight. It takes great leadership and the right chemistry for a culture change. Sometimes I have to pinch myself. Before 2012, we were talking about things like beating Detroit ONE round or how close we were against Montreal. Even last year there were doubts in my head if the Kings would repeat or not...incredible run. Hopefully it's just the start :) Been a great ride so far!

after 2012 cup i told my friend (who is a PHX fan so this probably did not go over so well lol) that in a way i felt cheated. waiting so long, so many horrible teams...to finally win the cup in a way where after STL series lead i knew it was going to happen there was no drama due to them being so utterly dominant.

2014 exact opposite of course, i was a nervous wreck every game almost to the point where i didnt even enjoy them. I wanted to feel like after the 0-3 comeback everything was extra and i didnt mind if they lost...until i knew who round 2 was against, then no way could i stomach losing that series to them so nervous time! revenge on the Hawks also left me unable to stay calm and ofc the NY/Hank hype was nearly too much to bare so again nervous time.

so i will answer as other seem to have:

the 2012 cup team means more to me personally, but the 2014 roller coaster run was in the end more exciting + I got to actually goto a game (in SJ game 7 was amazing).

Honestly, that's like choosing between your fraternal twin children.

2012 was the first, and that all by itself makes it special and unique. Their playoff performance was also the more impressively dominant. Quick was better in 2012 -- an absolute playoff monster with a total playoff performance that is unrealistic to expect he will ever equal. Our overall team defense was probably better in 2012, I've never seen a more stifling forecheck or thorough shutdown of the defensive zone.

All that said, 2014 may have been the better team. Gaborik + Kopitar was pure magic, and That 70's Line was an unexpected explosion of offensive skill and effort. Even more special, they demonstrated incredible resilience and put us on a roller coaster of emotion. That comeback against the Sharks took me from despondence to elation. The nail-biting Game 7 OT win against the Hawks capped one of the best and most hard-fought series I've ever seen.

So I dunno... the stifling dominance and cathartic release of our first Cup in 2012?
Or the high-skill roller coaster of heart-stopping comebacks and close games against great opponents in 2014?
I really don't think I can choose.

Yup, right on bro. Plus if King finally puts it all together and Greene is finally healthy...I made a comment on another thread on the main boards that sounded like a boast to someone ignorant. But in reality the Kings will be adding simply by certain guys getting healthy and certain other guys developing to a significant extent.

2012, easy.

Going up 3-0 in EVERY series was just an out-of-body experience, something that no Kings fans could have ever thought was even possible. Just beating vanc in 5 in the 1st round made 2012 a huge success.

And in gm 6 of the SCF, when the Kings were up 6-1, I kept thinking, "ok, when can I truly relax, because we all have seen many blown leads." I think I finally settled down and accepted the upcoming fist Stanley Cup win (!!!!!) with about 6 minutes left.

Nothing is as good as your first.

And re gm 6, when is the last time the Kings scored 2 goals during a major PP? ...and I don't think I'm going out on a limb to say they have NEVER scored 3 goals in any major PP in their history - including preseason, regular season, playoffs - even practice. At least I am unaware of it ever happening.

Like I said, and out-of-body experience.

For me it was 2014 and don't get me wrong 2012 was amazing and being there in person for both I will never ever forget the feeling of both. But the reason being 2014 is that when Alec Martinez got that rebound kicked to him the second it went off of henrik it was like time was going in slow mo and freezing and you just see him putting it home and sending this team back to the top in a single second. Then after it is in you see the whole team and building erupt as one single unit simply amazing get goosebumps thinking about it again.

Those 2014 ****ers almost made me die of a heart attack every other night.

I love them equally, but holy **** was 2014 exciting.

Probably 2012. That team was unstoppable from March through June. I never doubted them.

2014 had the big celebratory moments, though. Tough call.
