Which Canadian Team Will Go the Farthest?

Oilers will be primed. So much talk about not getting home ice in a potential first round matchup vs Kings but I think its a blessing. Oilers last game of the season is in San Jose so they can stay in california. Have some team bonding and avoid more travel. If they play well having home ice for game 6 could be the key.

I agree.
I think of the 1983. the famous story about the Oilers...

The Oilers lost in the SCF 4-0 and to a man they said that was the year they learned the most important lesson on what it takes to win...

I know it wasn't remotely the same scenario for the Jets....But I do think they walked into that Avs series confident and convinced they would win... and the 5 game loss taught them that same lesson.

The Jets started playoff hockey in October Game 1... and haven't stopped....which I believe IS the the lesson.... You can never settle, you can never stop, you can never take anything for granted. lose one come back and win the next. Injured? next man up. Adversity? face it head on no fear! great competition? Play YOUR game... make the other team adapt to you. .

.You must play EVERY GAME like it's the SCF!!!

.... and the Jets have done it all year.
This is a good post, I think.

What needs to be remembered is that the list of teams that choke in the playoffs also includes EVERY SINGLE TEAM that eventually won the Stanley Cup, before they won the Stanley Cup.

The Islanders before 1980-1983? Chokers.

The Oilers before 1984? Chokers.

The Bruins with Bobby Orr, before 1970? Chokers.

The Leafs since just before men landed on the moon? Cho...never mind, it's too easy.

What about the Colorado Avalanche?

Montreal Vs LA, with LA Winning to avenge 93', until LA defeats Montreal in the Finals Canada is cursed to never win another Stanley Cup, 31 years and counting proves it :sarcasm:

Conclusion? Jets are a paper champion who are going to choke and lose in round 1 this year, just like they always do. And everyone will laugh, because it'll be hilarious.
Conclusion? You know less than nothing about the Winnipeg Jets this year, and are therefore left with nothing but vomiting up prior years' playoff stats as if they mean anything now.

Jets good team. Oilers don't seem the same this year as last two years
That seems to be the general consensus. EDM is slower, not as physical and much of the season have struggled to score goals. The entire team with the exception of Draisaitl have had really bad seasons offensively. That said if McDrai can actually stay fully healthy and Pickard (assuming he starts) can be even average, I'm not counting them out. The Jets? Well we have seen how badly Hellebuck has crumbled in the playoffs. Great in the regular season. Terrible in the playoffs. Until he and the entire team can prove it I'm still taking EDM. They have the experience and McDrai are beasts come playoff time. But I agree, they have looked very off all year. They could do great and beat LA or get swept and neither would surprise me. lol.

They are decimated with injuries. I dont think they make it out of the 1st round.

Chokers?

They went to the finals the year before against the Islanders Dynasty that won 3 in a row.

Oilers. The underperforming is mostly due to injury. Most of our guys will be back in time.

It's the path. The Oilers have LA's number. Winnipeg and Toronto have easier 1st round opponents. However, the 2nd round favors the Oilers. The Atlantic and Central division contenders are better than Vegas.

I'm not sold on the low seed Canadian teams

The Winnipeg and Toronto cores don't have much playoff success, the Oilers are decimated with injuries, the Sens and Habs too inexperienced. I think all Canadian teams will be out after Round 2 and it's quite possible that only one makes it to Round 2 because one will have to if the Leafs clinch the division.

Yeah. Chokers. If they lose in the playoffs they're chokers, right? Seems to be the criteria everyone uses in evaluating the Jets. They lose in the playoffs, either to powerhouses (Vegas, Avs) or teams that are on a Stanley Cup run (St. Louis), so they must be chokers. Edmonton lost in four straight the the Islanders in 1983, even though they had Gretzky, Messier, Fuhr, Anderson, Kurri, Coffey...one of the greatest lineups in NHL history. Must be chokers, right?

Or is "choker" a label reserved for just the Jets?

How about this...a handful of playoff losses, a couple of them ugly (like the Oilers in 1983), on the way to building a better team? But that's not nearly as good a headline.

Ahhh.

My definition is: Final 4 are never considered chokers.

All I know is Toronto better do something this year as it may be (one of?) the last in awhile where they finish ahead of the Habs/Sens, or just match up as the clearly stronger team going in (on paper of course - not trying to jinx anything if they meet this year).

In a few years, the Sens & Habs may just be running this division and beyond and it's going to be really, really bitter in Toronto if by then the legacy of this Leafs core is never having gotten out of the 2nd round.

Previous playoff success is not the best indicator for current playoff success. Please see the vgk going to the finals in their first f***ing season.

A good chunk of the current Jets core has at least seen a conference finals. Hellebuyck, Scheif, Connor, Lowry, Morrissey, Tanev, Ehlers were all there. Granted that was many years ago but at the very least they have seen what it takes to get that far. They have had some rough goes of it recently but this team looks better than any team they have had since 2018.

I don't know who will go the farthest but I know who will go out the quickest. It'll be Ottawa. Expect them to get swept by whomever they play.
Habs will be lucky to win more than 1 game if we make it.
Jet or the Oilers for Canadian teams i can see one of them having the best shot.
