Which Canadian Team Will Go the Farthest?

Talk about setting an unrealistic benchmark.

Just so you know, no team in the history of the NHL has won 5 games, let alone more than five games, in the first round.

It's a mathematical impossibility.

Haha ok you got me. I meant make it past 5 games.

The habs just added a generational talent on their roster. This is a different team now.

Last time Suzuki and Cole were in the playoffs, they made it to the finals.

Betting on the MTL this year is an easy choice.
A little soon for the 'generational' tag, no? Despite his obvious talent, Demidov has played zero games in North America. Give the kid a chance to acclimate.

But yeah, the Habs are playing great hockey and have proven they can beat anyone. Washington's a powerhouse and should take the series, but as we see every single year... expect the unexpected!

Considering Edmonton made it to game 7 of the Finals last year, and pretty much have a similar team this year, they have to be the favorites when it comes to Canadian teams. McDavid and Draisaitl will most likely go 2PPG again. Watch out!

After that, with the season they've had Winnipeg have to be among the favorites too, as long as Hellebuyck continues his domination in the PLAYOFFS this time around.

Toronto is third for me. It will depend on how they look in the first round. If they do get Ottawa, they should win in 5 or 6. It's about time for them to have a decisive playoffs series win. One that doesn't go 7 games and that doesn't make their fans sweat the whole time.

Then you got Montreal and Ottawa. Realistically they should not get past the first round, but they have had great runs since the Four Nations. So, who knows? There is always the possibility for an underdog to go on a Cinderella run. ;)

Probably the Oilers. They’ve proven they can win in the playoffs with a SCF appearance last year, and they have a very dangerous team.

Leafs are the Leafs. Habs are up-and-coming but likely get dusted in the first round. Sens probably don’t win a round, but even if they do, that’s likely it. Jets are interesting, but seem to falter in the playoffs.

If they lost there would be changes to the core. It is a win/win for us. Either they do it or the formula changes.

The difference is, the Leafs have experienced it all. They've lost to cup champs, they've lost to teams beneath them, they've won a playoff series vs a contender. People hold the Habs loss against them meanwhile easy to forget Matthews was 22 when that happened. Literally he was younger than Stutzle is now. I don't think it happens again
For sure ! Definitely a win win situation for the leafs either losing to or beating the Sens. I guess you shouldn't really care then either way.

Please dont group the rest of us in with Habs fans please. They are on a completely different level of delusion look at this thread alone.
He said "CanadiENS" not "CanadiANS".

And it has nothing to do with Habs fans. It has to do with hockey fans who tend to be overly hyped about their favorite players.

What? Generational talent? Who?

Talk about hyperbole wow

Toronto is in an odd spot.

The team analytically is worse under Berube than any of the Keefe teams.

But they have better goaltending than they ever had in this era, and they have the type of defence that NHL refs allow to do stupid things in the playoffs, especially when they activate Hakanpaa(which I think they will).

Their bottom six is still a huge hole and even through their 5 forward powerplay is insane, they're one short handed playoff goal away from Berube going back to a dman back there IMO.

Regardless of what happens, I just hope there isn't anything wild with the star players again. Between the Kadri suspensions, Muzzin and Tavares stretchered off and Nylander migraines...I think I've seen enough.

Somehow I can see the Leafs either blowing a team out of the water (including my Sens) or losing a close series.

I'm dying for the Cup to come to Canada again (yes I know most Cup teams have a lot of Canadians on them but I want a Canadian City to party like it's 1999).

My dream is Oilers vs Leafs in the finals.

My guess

Jet's flame out with 'playoff Helle' in a brutal conference. On the other hand, tremendous team and hope they win it all.
Oilers didn't get the G or the D (Walman is great but he's not a RHD) and will flame out quick. On the other hand, they got a whole bunch of impact players coming back from injuries and the timing may be perfect. Kane, Drai, Ekholm and RNH joining your team right before playoffs is pretty impactful.
Habs made it and they have a 'vibe' about them. On the other hand, I don't think they are ready to go deep yet and are a few years away.
Sens have had a great year and cohesive. I'm not sure they are good enough to take out Florida though.
Leafs always seem to flame out. But, maybe after all that, they finally go on a long run? The talent is there.

So my vote, after all that, Habs make it to the finals again on a beauty run.

I'm an Oiler fan and not a Habs fan. I could legit see all of them winning it and I could legit see all of them losing in round one.lol

Talk about hyperbole wow

Im talking about the new definition of generational talent established by the NHL since Bedard. Hes at least 2-3 x better

And to be fair, Demidov could be as good or better than Kucherov which i personally consider a gnerational talent at the same level as McNuggets

in mtl they consider Demidov to be the best prospect since Guy Lafleur who’s undeniably been considered a legit generational talent.

Demidov is going to have a 100pts+ season, next year.

This is not a hyperbole.

No pressure.

People's continued insistence that the Jets choke in the playoffs as opposed to simply not having had many good teams since 2018 is really weird, and I'm not sure what it's based on. Since their 2018 run, they've played two teams they finished the regular season with more points than (lower p% than their play-in opponents in 2020). Those teams were 3 points and 4 points behind the Jets in the standings.

The Jets have been a fairly bad team since 2018, and have indeed lost in the playoffs, as bad teams tend to do. If they finish first in the central, this will mark the first time since 2018 they will be clear favorites in a playoff round based on the regular season results, rather than vibes.
