Which Canadian Team Will Go the Farthest?

aaaaannnd here comes the "bring the cup home to canada" people... :shakehead

Those people don’t exist on HF.

Only casual fans say stuff like that.

Well-adjusted, normal people with productive lives who regard hockey as entertainment to follow now and then and know enough to say “How about that game last night?” at the water cooler.

A true HFer only wants their own Canadian team to break the drought.

But man oh man, what if Ottawa wins... Then what.... Blow it up in Toronto? They cant even beat a team that hasnt been in the playoffs for 8 seasons. That indeed would be bleak. I wonder how they will handle the pressure of being such huge favorites with such a terrible playoff track record.

I expect the leafs to win and they really should. Finally winning the division playing an inexperienced opponent. But the hockey world deserves to see it.

If they lost there would be changes to the core. It is a win/win for us. Either they do it or the formula changes.

The difference is, the Leafs have experienced it all. They've lost to cup champs, they've lost to teams beneath them, they've won a playoff series vs a contender. People hold the Habs loss against them meanwhile easy to forget Matthews was 22 when that happened. Literally he was younger than Stutzle is now. I don't think it happens again

How many series have the leafs won since then 😂.
Spoiler alert 1, worst in the NHL, except for expansion Seattle.
Let us know when leafs win a third round for first time in their history.
What a terrible flex that was going back as far as the last century.

Just trying to keep it straight, we're allowed to bring up 55+ years of Leafs playoff history as for why they will fail, but not allowed to bring up series in the last 25 years they won?

It was also a leaf that lost the man infront causing the goal..

How can you say the above while ignoring that?

It's like everything you say is pro Leafs or anti sens...talk about a bias man.

Try not to make it so obvious.

That goal was a breakdown of the entire team. It started with Adam Fox making Matthews have to choose between two players (Marner and McDavid) and getting caught in the middle.

It’ll either be Edmonton or Winnipeg. Opponents in the East are too close distance wise unless they play the Florida teams in the first round.

This for sure.

Ottawa vs Toronto, for example, is basically walking distance.

I could have known that you would have a pro Leaf spin to anything lol

Lots of breakdowns from pros who show the play slowly break down. It starts with Fox making a dumb decision to chase behind the net. Then another player makes a mistake as well, Matthews is in front of the net with Marner on the side and McDavid in the slot.

Fair enough he should have let Marner shoot and kept mcDavid covered but there was 0.5 seconds between Marner having the puck and it being on McDavid's stick so not much he can do, It was a team effort.

It’s funny that you have to back a quarter of a century to get series wins in to the plural…

The 100+ year drought makes the Leafs drought look like an afternoon nap

Meh, we'll get around to it eventually.

So was the goal.

Makar doesn't keep the puck in and put the puck on Marner's stick, the goal doesn't happen.

But I understand why you would say it's a "team effort" when it's Matthews' man that is unmarked and it's "Marner creating the goal" when there were two assists on the play.

The habs just added a generational talent on their roster. This is a different team now.

Last time Suzuki and Cole were in the playoffs, they made it to the finals.

Betting on the MTL this year is an easy choice.

I think "generational" is putting it a little too mildly.

"Dimensional" talent I think is more appropriate. Or even "Multiversal" talent.

Montreal is the weakest team in the playoffs but they are known try hards who always seem to punch above their weight , something in the tap water here... it's weird. I've seen some pretty garbage rosters win rounds so who knows. Caps are very good it could be a quick series for us

C’mon, why do posters constantly have to correct what you type, no wonder there is no credibility.

Matthews was 23 years and 7 months old, so no, he was not 22, and no he was not younger than Stutzle. Good grief, maybe once avoid the hyperbole.

Tough to say.

If Toronto and Winnipeg continue to hold onto first, they have set themselves up well. Colorado/Dallas and Florida/Tampa will be blood baths. So I think either team might be able to capitalize on their opposition having a tough first round. If they can get out of the first two rounds then who knows. But based on their history it’s unlikely they get past the first two rounds.

Oilers are a wildcard. Hard to say what they will look like once the playoffs start. First round exit wouldn’t surprise me. Deep run wouldn’t surprise me either. But with their goaltending it’s hard to have much confidence in them even if their forwards and defense get going.

Assuming the seedings stay the same, the Must-Watch series (aside from my own team's) is Ottawa/Toronto. Logically, the Leafs are the better team and should beat the underdog Senators. But not a single hockey fan will be surprised if Ottawa becomes the latest chapter in Toronto's tale of woe.

Either way, it should be intense, and, as a moderator, I'm stocking up on meds.
