Which 2022 Olympic candidate would be the best from a hockey prospective?

Oslo.

It's a pitty that Sweden never held a winter olympics, and probably won't within a loooong time. Sweden is after all a pretty good wintersport nation with good facilities and climate, and Sweden usually take good concern about envoirmental issues and is compared to a lot of countries low on corruption.

There is just too much negativity around the olympics here I guess, there is a lot of people in Sweden who is pretty disinterested in sports and dont want to be a part of the costs around this. :dunno:

But the Norwegians would make a great olympics.

I think one part is that the people in charge in Sweden is a bunch of very inbred amateurs, figuratively speaking. They appoint friends, cant produce a viable budget and are known to not know how to do things in a professional way.

but where? Ostersund/Are is the only logical possibility. But currently the olympics committee grants games to bigger cities or the resorts near bigger cities.

Åre and Stockholm could have easily shared the games, it would takes some planning on the logistics but that goes with E V E R Y olympics. Although Östersund could also do. It's not a major city, in fact it's pretty small, but for example Lillehammer isnt big either.

And did they have the alpine skiing in Vancouver City, no there wasnt that was held in a good distance from the city.

I doubt that they plan to hold every event in Beijing City (in the middle of the severe smog they got there at winters, not so great on the ahtletes lungs).

Dont know much about Polish alps, although I know there is some highlands in Poland, and I guess they near Krakow (?)

Krakow would be my 2# choice anyway.

So my vote is 1# Oslo 2# Krakow.

And hopefully Sweden get a winter olympics sometime during my lifetime, but that is an uncertainty.

It is of course better if the plans around an olympic games is done professionally. If it is like you say, maybe this was for the best.

Oslo, hopefully it will help develop a better hockey infrastructure there seeing as they are so close to Sweden/Finland.

Poland and Ukraine would benefit as well but to a lesser extend.

Norway, definitely. After the string of recent olympic games (china, sochi, brazil, etc) we need a games in a normal place.

From a selfish prospective I hope Lviv wins, as I'd love for Ukraine to host the tournament and get a big boost for its hockey infrastructure. I'd also get to go to the games again. :)

Almaty would be really cool place to visit though. That'd probably be my second choice. Kazakhstan could use a boost in hockey and just getting the chance to visit Central Asia would be something to check off the bucket list.

Krakow would be Lviv lite for me.

Oslo would be close to my last choice just because it'd be pricey, but at least the infrastructure of the country would make staying further away and going to events easier.

Beijing would be my last choice.

I think it really hurts Beijings chances that Peyongchang hosts the 2018 games, and Tokyo the 2020 games.

So Id probably go with Poland or Norway. Tbh, I have no idea of the winter sport facilities in Poland, but whatta heck.

Looking at the info, found out that alpine skiing would take place in Slovakia. Otherwise, Zakopane is very well-known skiing facility.

Norway would actually be the worst country from this perspective IMO.

They have a program that is getting stronger. I believe Norway will qualify for the tournament without needing the help of being hosts. Thus, by having their team already playing, the interest will come with that.

You want a country that is unlikely to qualify on their own to generate buzz about the sport in that country. China, Ukraine, and Poland would be the places where that could happen--more so Ukraine and Poland because I think China would pump up sports like speed skating more than hockey.

I believe the issue is that they need higher slopes for some events, thus why some events are in Slovakia.

Disagree, I have zero interest in watching China get embarrassed in the Olympics, and take away a spot from a fringe team that may actually develop an interest.

I would also prefer a place where we don't have to constantly hear about human rights violations for months leading up the Olympics like the last one in China.

since Korea is not playing in 2018 why do you believe China would be allowed to? [MOD]
