The team just traveled 5000 miles... they are not robots. I do not know if you traveled that much before but I don't think you'd be at peak performance. I know in the moment we joke but lets take the 30000 ft view here.... We haven't even really seen the teams capability in 'normal' circumstances. 5-0 on this trip is ridiculous. NO ONE would have wagered that before the trip/after Nashville.

The outlier is the 4th line because they just suck...

Looks like after the Minnesota game (another horrendous bit of scheduling) they have a few games at home followed by a five-six day break (is there a bye week?). That should be an important mile marker and a chance to judge this team. They have exceeded expectations so far, by a country mile.

I mean, you can probably find some decent PKers who won't get the shit kicked out of them 5v5 the way the fourth line does

PKing is mostly overrated anyways and our best PKers are Zibanejad and Kreider because they pressure the other team and sometimes score shorties.
Winning faceoffs when on the PK is a huge plus and Bonino does it very well.

And they travel back 3000 miles to play 1 game and then off to Minnesota. The schedule makers are turds.

Just going to put this here for reference after last night...

View attachment 760806

Just for reference, the 2nd worst line in xGF% in the league is at 24%.

They have a higher xGA than the top line in less than half of the minutes played and are 1+ GA/60 up on our 2nd "worst" line in that regard.

The team is good at controlling the share of quality chances when the top 3 lines are playing... and are literally just conceding everything for what ever amount of time they're allotting the 4th line. That needs to stop. We've generated more chances on the PK than we have 5v5 when the 4th line is out there.

They've put up a goose egg in xGF in the last 2 games.
Pretty damning stats here.

weird that our 4th line is worse than last year even though we had jake le-szechuan on it for a decent amount of time.

This can't be sustainable.

I do think its interesting to think about the possibility that the success of the rest of the lines has a negative effect on the 4th. what i mean by that is that the other teams start believing that the only real chance they have to make a push is when that line is on the ice. If thats true, then it makes sense that teams would throw the kitchen sink at this line, while hoping to at least tread water against the others.

I bet the 4th line looks much better after a home stand where the opposing teams do not choose the matchups. I'm not saying it will be a great line, just that I don't believe they are quite as bad as we have seen.

Was never about his RS. Why you and the others want to continue to ignore that I don't understand.

He's been great to start this year and theres no denying that. He has to not go full pumpkin in the spring again.
Agree here. Fun to watch in the rs. We are a playoff team even without him. If he can’t produce in the playoffs, wouldnt you want 2 5.5 million dollar players over him?

We arent here to win the rs…. We are here to win the sc. he hasnt been good enough.

Kreids with another PP goal

He really needs to get it going 5 v 5 though

I know it’s nit picking but my lord has he looked bad when not on the pp
Anyone else (besides kakko) notice how bad offensively kreids and mika are at 5v5?

They more than make up for it in pk and pp… but what do you guys think is the 5v5 issues?

Kreider always always always starts slow is #1. He’ll get better at even strength

Mika bit snake bit he’ll get going

Playing 7 road games of the first 9 is going to lead to match up issues that aren’t going to help you look very good overall

And finally they’re a rush group. They prob would look a lot better with a rush offensive player not drill himself into the corner kakko.

Vatrano thrived there a healthy Kane I think will be there. But the object of the game is not to just possess the puck facing the boards which is all kakko wants to do

Putting in Jones for Gustafsson isn't a throwaway. It makes the team worse.
Isn’t it a by definition a given (that your 7th D is not as good your top-6)? But you can’t ignore that there are multiple valid reasons for inserting “occasionally” your 7th D in your lineup even when it’s not injury related.

As someone who traveled on a delayed red eye from Vegas Monday morning, I can attest to this. Its been 2 days and I have yet to recover.

The funny thing is the line has actually operated pretty well 5v5. I don't think they've looked nearly as good as the analytics would have you think, but they certainly haven't been bad.

The lack of finishing has been problematic and they have pretty varying styles and they've all been guilty of certain things -

Mika doesn't want to get involved along the walls, at all.

Kakko is more than willing to get involved along the walls, but won't go into the paint and takes forever to shoot the puck, if he shoots.

Kreider floats around like he's an elite sniper instead of using his size and speed to force the issue (now, he DID play a much more engaged game on Monday so hopefully there is more of that to come.)

None of them have really been going and yet they still have created more high danger opportunities than the other lines and have been strong defensively. I'd just let them roll for a while and re assess what they look like in December. If they still aren't scoring, then yeah, make changes.

I skipped the first 12 pages......Canadian hockey analyst Cassie Campbell last night between periods said Helleybuyck was a better goalie then Shesty because Shesty is out of position so often and has to use his acrobatic abilities to make so many saves unlike Helleybuycck . I guess she never watched Hasek ! Then a second intermission guy they call O Dog O'Neill ? agreed with her......go figure. I changed the channel before the other two joined in on the crucification . Madness I say !!!! Hasek was the most acrobatic ever and he also might have been the best ever IMO even more than Brodeur and Roy/Henrik.
If you have that dynamic ability like mentioned, why not continue until it stops working for you? Look at what Quick has done, changing because he prob had to with the advice from .......our master goalie coach. There may come a day Shesty has to pull a Quickie.
Hellebuck couldn't move like Shesty does, imo. Yeah right, he's better. Lol.

Hey guys, albeit unlikely.......I've been envisioning us sweeping this road trip. Tonight (I suppose) will be the toughest win to accomplish. An excellent road trip should really propel them into this successful season. I mean, Mika, Tro and Chytil have totalled 1 goal, right? What's gonna happen when they get going? Calling a MIKA big game tonight, outscoring their dynamic duo.

Guess that's why my prediction was so remarkable? I just felt it, yeah I could have been wrong, but I wasn't. Wish I had the balls to parlay it. I don't even follow how that all works anymore. My gambling days are over, but could have score BIG DINERO!
