We need to build our prospect pool way more than we need Gio.Any chance he stays put? It'd be a shame to jettison the first ever captain so quickly.
99% chance Francis couldn’t get a sniff of this out of Bill Zito. Come man that’s a beyond brutal ask
Calgary's moved on and are doing well. I don't think they want to invest that much to acquire their insurance players.Think Calgary gets him if I'm being honest.
Holloway wouldn't be offer sheet eligible for years, if they want to mess with the grease they'd have to go after Pulj, can't see that happening either.I feel the Flames would offersheet Holloway if they did that. And probably Beniers.
Only way Gio comes back to Calgary is in the offseason IMO.
I don't think it's likely he comes back at all and that's fine, I was just saying there is pretty much no chance he comes back this year. He'll fit in nicely at the deadline to a contender with cap space and an open D slot.Even that feels unlikely now. Our top 4 is set. And you'd think we would want to at least give Valimaki a chance at 3LD. Which leaves us needing only a 3RD?
Can you see Gio coming back for the minimum just to play 3RD?
I'd trade Valimaki, Monahan and a 2nd to Seattle for him and Jarnkrok.
Nah... im not sure Gio would even sign up to go to EDM and watch the Flames in the playoffs from his couchI feel the Flames would offersheet Holloway if they did that. And probably Beniers.
Wtf...I'd trade Valimaki, Monahan and a 2nd to Seattle for him and Jarnkrok.
I wouldn't add a 1st. I realize the offer isn't ideal. Valimaki has high 2nd or low 1st value. I just don't value upgrading the 3rd pairing enough to part with anything more than a 2nd.Add a 1st on Calgary's side and it's probably close.
I have never understood this. If you don't want to make a fair offer, just say that you have no interest in said player. Why try to make a lowball offer like that which makes little to no sense to the other team?I wouldn't add a 1st. I realize the offer isn't ideal. Valimaki has high 2nd or low 1st value. Gio is not a bottom pairing D-men. He may be on the Flames but that is not going to be his market value. And that is exactly my point. You don't need Gio, so just say so. Don't evaluate him on the basis of how he fits your team, because that is just unfair to the other team.I've never had an offer I didn't make agreed to.
What do you figure a bottom pairing defenseman and 3rd line forward are worth exactly? Should I be offering multiple 1sts for a guy who would be our 5th best defenseman and a guy who would be our 9th best forward?
Taylor Hall went for a 2nd.
It's not the same thing at all. Gio was a top pairing defenseman at one point but father time is undefeated. He was middle pairing last year and this year is bottom pairing on a good team.Gio is not a bottom pairing D-men. He may be on the Flames but that is not going to be his market value. That would be like saying that Hertl is a 3C on the Leafs because of they have Matthews and Tavares.
Sure. Just make sure to look back at this thread when he does get traded. It's not the same thing at all. Gio was a top pairing defenseman at one point but father time is undefeated. He was middle pairing last year and this year is bottom pairing on a good team.
Jarnkrok is a 3rd line forward for most teams in the league.
Someone might overpay. It doesn't mean he is better than a 3rd pairing guy at this stage. Giordano has 4 goals and is -13 this year. He's not the same guy he used to be. He was +40 and a 20 goal guy at his peak on a pretty mediocre team.Sure. Just make sure to look back at this thread when he does get traded.

Heck someone paid a 1st and 3rd for David Savard. There's no logic to prices sometimes.
A 2nd and Valimaki isn't chicken scratch. You're talking a recent 1st and a 2nd. Giordano won't get that return. The only reason I'd do it is to offload the Monahan money.Sure. Double down here and say whatever that makes you happy but it is more likely to get a David Savard like return for Gio at the TDL than what you were 'offering'.
I am sure you would.A 2nd and Valimaki isn't chicken scratch. You're talking a recent 1st and a 2nd. Giordano won't get that return. The only reason I'd do it is to offload the Monahan money.
